***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Hungry Girl Today: 11.22.10

Spotted on Shelves...

Sparkling ICE Naturally Flavored Sparkling Mountain Spring Water - Calorie-counting fizzy beverage lovers, listen up: THIS STUFF IS AMAZING! In Pink Grapefruit, Lemon Lime, Pomegranate Berry, Black Raspberry, Orange Mango (LOVE IT!), and Kiwi Strawberry, this new Splenda-sweetened drink is PACKED with vitamins and antioxidants but FREE of calories, carbs, and sodium. Weeeeee! Find it at select supermarkets and Costco locations or buy online.

Land O Lakes Seasoning - Lots of flavor paired with very few calories ranks right up there next to designer shoes matched with low prices. So this line of sprinklable seasonings makes us WAY happy. Dust 'em onto veggies, some nearly fat-free popcorn... whatever! There are SEVEN made-with-real-dairy varieties, from basic Butter to Queso Picante. Each 1/2-tsp. serving has just 4 - 6 calories, 112 - 200mg sodium, and nothin' else (POINTS® value 0*). Shake it up!

Starbucks VIA Ready Brew, Christmas Blend - A new and seasonally appropriate variety of the best-ever on-the-go instant coffee?! HOORAY! And we like that this one isn't already sweetened (like the recently launched VIA flavors, which have 60 calories per packet); so it's basically calorie-free, and you can add as much (or as little) of your sweetener of choice as you like. DOUBLE HOORAY! Look for it at your local 'Bucks or order some online.

LYING Labels?! The SHOCKING Lab Results Are In...

HOLY DECEPTIVE STATS, Batman! What skeptical salad chewers have suspected for years has basically been confirmed. Consumer Ally took Galeos World's Best Miso Caesar dressing -- the super-popular, allegedly low-calorie/low-fat dressing touted by NBC's The Biggest Loser -- to the lab for nutritional analysis, and the results are shocking: 120 calories and 11g fat per tablespoon, nearly TEN TIMES as many calories as the label claims! Those stats are comparable to those of standard full-fat dressings. YIKES!!! This is a perfect example of why you should always trust your instincts; if something seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. Liar, Liar, Stats on Fire!

S.O.S.!

Americans Are Sleepless, Overweight, AND Stressed... Coincidence?

The word has been out for a while that lack of sleep can mess with weight loss/management, but get this: A new global survey of worldwide sleep patterns from the Philips Center for Health and Well-being shows that Americans are some of the most sleep-deprived people in the world. The most common reason cited for lost sleep? Being stressed about life in general. Considering that high stress levels and not enough sleep have BOTH been linked to weight troubles, it's no wonder that obesity levels keep rising. What can you do about it? Click here for some tips from the National Sleep Foundation on managing insomnia (due to stress or otherwise), and click here for info from the Mayo Clinic about controlling stress-related eating and weight gain. Even small changes make a difference, so take care of yourself and get some rest! Zzzzzzzzzzzzz...

The Buzz...

Do the new "natural-style" French fries at Wendy's look more wholesome and less junk food-like to you? Don't be fooled! They may have a bit of skin left on 'em and be sprinkled with sea salt, but they're still high in calories and fat like the old fries, and they have about 40 percent MORE sodium. BOOOO! ***Have trouble reaching that top shelf? Easily lost in crowds? Sometimes, being short is a drag (we know!), but guess what! A new study suggests that short people might burn more calories walking the same distance as tall people. Short legs = more steps = extra energy used = more calories burned. Nice! ***Attention, nog lovers... Last week, we warned you about all the high-calorie eggnogs populating supermarket shelves. TONS of you wrote in to remind us that Silk Nog, a dairy-free option, has just 90 calories and 2g fat per 1/2-cup serving. Thanks, guys! ***Turkey's big day is almost here. In the event that you have a poultry-related emergency, fear not! The Foster Farms Turkey Helpline will be there for you around the clock, with experts standing by to guide you through your time of trial. However, if you need help with your side dishes, we recommend you click right here. ***If you missed HG's cocktail book tour earlier this year, and you want to check out all the fun that went down at the events, take a peek at this: It's our latest video, sponsored by The Laughing Cow! That's our kind of cheesy fun... ***And if you still can't get enough Hungry Girl, make sure you scope out the December issue of Redbook, on newsstands this week. It features a column by Lisa (HG herself!) all about PIZZA. That's all we've got... HG out!
