Hungry Girl Today: 06.01.11

Hi HG,

I have a dilemma. My husband eats way more food than I do and snacks all the time! Plus, the foods he eats are usually fattening. Do you have any tips for staying on track when your significant other is indulging? Thanks!

Tempted by the Food of Another

Hi Tempted,

That's a toughie... but I have some suggestions that I think will keep both you and your husband satisfied. Check 'em out...

For specific foods your husband eats that tempt you, stock up on guilt-free versions to get your fix. While he scarfs down a large bag of movie theater-style popcorn, you can enjoy your 100-calorie bag of 94% fat-free popcorn. If he's downing full-fat ice cream from the carton, grab a portion-controlled cup of light ice cream for yourself!

Crown yourself shopping queen. Put your husband on laundry duty while you do the grocery shopping for your household. This way, you're in control, and there's no chance of him returning with something you can't resist. Be a control freak -- it's OK! (You can even sneak some less junky stuff into his snack stash!)

Make HG-friendly versions of his favorite foods. My husband is from Memphis and loves pulled pork, which is how I came up with my lightened-up 'Cue the Pulled Pork recipe. Whatever your hubby craves, there's likely a guilt-free HG swap for it. Onion rings? Yup! Philly cheesesteak? Yes! Fried chicken? SURE. You'd be amazed by how many people have eaten the HG-ified foods without having any idea that they're guilt-free.

Whip up filling foods with huge serving sizes. Check out the show page for "Fill 'Er Up!" -- an entire Hungry Girl episode devoted to filling foods that are sure to keep even the hungriest people happy. (Hey, even competitive eater Joey Chestnut was satisfied.)

Now go chew things!

Hi Hungry Girl,

I'm not a big fan of breakfast foods, but I know I should be eating breakfast. Do you have any ideas for someone like me? No eggs or cereal!

Eschewin' B-fast Chewin'

Hi Eschewin',

I hear you. Even for someone like me who LOVES breakfast, sticking exclusively to typical breakfast foods can get old FAST. That's why I like to switch things up. Incorporate some lunch/dinner elements into your breakfast. Here are some ideas and recipes too...

Corndog Millionaire Muffins - Who says morning muffins have to be fruity? These savory items are loved by all!

Deli Meat, Meet Breakfast - Toss turkey slices on an English muffin with a Laughing Cow Light cheese wedge and some mustard. Or whip up a Hungry Grilled Ham 'n Cheese Waffle 'Wich -- sure, waffles are involved, but it's basically a combo of grilled cheese and a ham sandwich!

HG's Breakfast Rice Pudding - This one is more like dessert than breakfast. But it's made with wholesome stuff, so feel free to eat it in the AM!

Guilt-Free Pizza Bagels - A classic way to bring lunchy fun to your morning meal. Click here for bagel picks and here for pizza ingredients!

Sausage-Stuffed Breakfast Grilled Cheese - That's right... More grilled cheese for breakfast. This one ROCKS.

There's no need to avoid breakfast. Enjoy!
