NEWS

Spotted on Shelves...

Kashi Indigo Morning Cereal - Brand-spankin'-new cereal alert! This crunchy breakfast item features lightly sweetened, puffy corn flakes alongside dried blackberries and blueberries. It tastes great, and a 3/4-cup serving has only 100 calories, 1g fat, 75mg sodium, 22g carbs, 2g fiber, 4g sugars, and 2g protein (PointsPlus® value 3*). HG tip: Give your box an upside-down shake before you open it to make sure the berries are thoroughly mixed in!

MiO Liquid Water Enhancer - For those of you who like only a hint of flavor in your water, those who crave lots of sweet taste, and even people who simply like options, this just-add-to-water beverage concentrate is a must-try! Add as many (or as few) drops as your heart desires. It comes in a slew of fun flavors (we heart the Mango Peach), and each 1/2-tsp. serving has zero calories (and zero of everything else). Give it a test sip!

Earthbound Farm Organic Mixed Baby Kales - Don't be scared of kale -- it only wants to love you! If you've been intimidated by the big bunches of tough leaves until now, this trimmed and washed mix is a good introduction. It's tender enough for salad and perfect for HG's crispy Baked Kale! A 3-oz. serving (about 2 cups) has 35 calories, 0.5g fat, 85mg sodium, 5g carbs, 2g fiber, 1g sugars, and 2g protein (PointsPlus® value 0*). All green, no mean...

The Cheesecake Factory Debuts a New, Lighter Menu!

Have you heard about the new SkinnyLicious menu at The Cheesecake Factory? Although ginormous slabs of overly caloric cheesecakes will still be present and no lighter than before, the chain is adding TONS of brand-new options for those of us who wanna indulge in a guilt-free meal! The new menu, which will be in nearly all locations by mid-September, features around FIFTY Small Plates & Appetizers, Fresh Baked Flatbreads, Salads, Specialties (a.k.a. entrées), and Skinny Cocktails. The small plates, apps, and flatbreads will each have less than 490 calories. Each entrée-sized salad and specialty option will clock in at under 590 calories. And the cocktails top out at just 150 calories each. Not bad! Just remember that those calories do add up, so don't go nuts and order something from each section of the new menu. We're TOTALLY psyched about this news in general. (SkinnyLicious Shrimp Soft Tacos? YES, PLEASE!) And what we'd really like to see next are the ACTUAL CALORIE COUNTS for these menu items... You can do it, CF, can't you?! In the meantime, we'll be tasting the new items and reporting back... Stay tuned!

Trimming the Factory!

Things We're Loving at the HG HQ!

Our taste buds are doing happy dances all over the place...

Saucy Mama Hot Wing Sauce - Oh, mama! This sauce tastes like a creamy version of Frank's RedHot, which pretty much means it is AWESOME. Even more awesome? A tablespoon of the sauce has only 15 calories and 2g fat (PointsPlus® value 1*). We love our Saucy Mama!

Fuze Slenderize - Yes, yes, this stuff has been around for a long time. But we just re-realized how great it is -- kind of like when you find a shirt buried in the back of your closet that you haven't worn in years and you fall in love with it all over again. Blueberry Raspberry is our number-one pick, but Strawberry Melon and Tropical Punch both rock too. Just 10 - 20 calories per 16.9-oz. bottle (PointsPlus® value 0*)!

Lauri Jo's Dilly Beans - Pickled green beans are great, and these are particularly tasty. Lauri Jo has a whole slew of fun southern-style jarred goods, pickles, and jellies; this is the jar we can't keep our hands out of. A 2-bean serving has only 5 fat-free calories (PointsPlus® value 0*). Which is good, because we like to eat more than 2 beans at a time. YUM!

The Buzz...

Wanna take in fewer calories? In addition to switching from candy bars to grapes (or at least to lower-calorie candy), chewing your food MORE might help. A recent study showed that extra chewing could result in lower levels of an appetite-stimulating hormone and higher levels of a hormone that potentially reduces your appetite. So, chew things. Chew them a lot. ***Sad news: Another line of low-calorie spray dressings has bitten the dust. Ken's Lite Accents lineup has been discontinued. Let's not let these awesome items permanently disappear from shelves! Click here and BEG the Ken's crew to bring 'em back. We love guys with accents... ***Subway is on the right track (get it?!) when it comes to healthy eating -- each 6-inch serving of bread now has 30 percent of the daily recommended value of calcium and 20 percent of the recommended value of vitamin D you need in a day. So grab a sandwich -- we'd go with something off the Fresh Fit menu! ***Season 2 of Hungry Girl on Food Network continues this Sunday with "We All Scream for Ice Cream" -- an entire episode devoted to freezy-good treats! Lisa's making cool 'n creamy sweets and dishing the scoop on the best and worst items to order at an ice cream shop. Tune in to Food Network this Sunday (8/14) at 10am/9c... You SO don't want to miss it, so make sure you set your DVR or post a reminder somewhere you'll see it (like the freezer!). Watch it, you! And that's all we've got. HG out!
