We're dishing on the latest frozen entrées to grace the microwave at the HG HQ. Some are better than others, so READ UP!





Lean Cuisine Culinary Collection Chef's Pick Mushroom Mezzaluna Ravioli

We've sung the praises of the Ranchero Braised Beef entrée (SO GREAT!), and here's another meal in the Chef's Pick line that you oughta know about. If decadent stuffed-pasta dishes lure you in at Italian restaurants, steel your resolve with this freezer-aisle ravioli. The serving size isn't huge, but the taste is INCREDIBLE. Round out your meal with a salad, or bulk things up by mixing some nuked-from-frozen veggies into the extra sauce.



Amy's Gluten Free Indian Aloo Mattar Wrap

Amy's has been pretty darn good at the Indian-food thing for quite some time. And while the items are generally delicious, they're not always low in calories and/or fat. This potato, tofu, and chickpea wrap? Totally reasonable, especially considering how SUPER-YUMMY it is. It's really well seasoned but not too spicy. (To use a Spice Girls metaphor, it's Baby Spice, not Scary Spice.) And did you notice that it's gluten-free? Yup!







Healthy Choice Top Chef Café Steamers Chicken Fresca with Chardonnay
1 meal: 240 calories, 6g fat, 570mg sodium, 30g carbs, 4g fiber, 2g sugars, 16g protein -- PointsPlus® value 6*

The best thing about this entrée is the chicken -- high-quality stuff. But there were only a few pieces in the meal we tried. The potatoes had an odd texture, and the sauce was too heavy on the herbs for our taste buds. We probably wouldn't buy this one again; but for fans of quality-over-quantity chicken and herby flavor, this could be a good choice.



Kashi All Natural Sesame Chicken Steam Meal
1 package: 300 calories, 9g fat, 630mg sodium, 42g carbs, 8g fiber, 8g sugars, 17g protein -- PointsPlus® value 8*

Kashi recently steamed up its image -- no, there's not a racy scandal in the frozen-food world; the brand has added steam-in-the-bag meals to its all-natural lineup. We tried every one of the new options, and this was the crowd favorite. Everything about it rocks, from the 7 Whole Grain & Sesame Pilaf to the white-meat chicken to the impressive veggie assortment... which even includes shelled edamame! And the sauce that coats it all is sweet and SO perfect. Way to go, Kashi!







Healthy Choice Top Chef Café Steamers Grilled Chicken Marinara with Parmesan
1 meal: 280 calories, 4.5g fat, 570mg sodium, 38g carbs, 6g fiber, 7g sugars, 20g protein -- PointsPlus® value 7*

Making a pasta dinner for yourself from scratch can be risky... mostly because it's so easy to overload on the noodles. This is a good option for pasta lovers -- whole-grain penne with broccoli, a tasty marinara sauce, and tender chicken. Plus, it's topped with cheese, which really ramps up the comfort-food factor. Want to stretch this meal's serving size? Put it over some steamed broccoli cole slaw. Mmmm...



Amy's Light & Lean Roasted Polenta with Swiss Chard
1 entrée: 140 calories, 4g fat, 540mg sodium, 20g carbs, 4g fiber, 7g sugars, 6g protein -- PointsPlus® value 3*

When frozen meals taste super-fresh, we're impressed. Well, the fresh flavor isn't the only selling point for this terrific new vegetarian item -- it has less than 150 calories! That's great because we love to pair frozen entrées with more food to make up for their typically small size. The chunky tomato topping on this is really tasty, and the whole thing is truly unique. Plus... polenta rules!







Kashi All Natural Spinach and Artichoke Pasta Steam Meal
1 entrée: 280 calories, 9g fat, 620mg sodium, 41g carbs, 8g fiber, 0g sugars, 13g protein -- PointsPlus® value 7*

We've found the use of tangy elements in frozen meals to be tricky. We heart most of Kashi's entrées, but between the artichokes and the "hint of lemon" in the sauce, this meal is a bit sour for our taste buds. Sorry K-Slice (our nickname for Kashi... as of now), but this one misses the mark. However, lovers of tart and tangy flavors might really enjoy this. And it has a nice amount of protein for a meatless meal!



Lean Cuisine Culinary Collection Chef's Pick Chicken Makhani
1 package: 300 calories, 7g fat, 650mg sodium, 40g carbs, 3g fiber, 6g sugars, 19g protein -- PointsPlus® value 8*

Several of the new Lean Cuisine entrées won us over, but we're especially impressed that the LC peeps produced this Indian dish. (Watch your back, Amy!) Chicken makhani -- a.k.a. butter chicken -- is traditionally very creamy and on the heavy side, and it's pretty easy to overdo it with a multi-serving order. The real standout here is the Indian-style tomato sauce -- slightly creamy and completely delicious. If you need your Indian-food fix but don't want to risk restaurant temptation (who can resist all that naan?), this will do the trick.
