GIRLS BITE OUT
Today we honor an INCREDIBLE ingredient in our guilt-free arsenal. Meatless yet meaty, satisfying but not fattening, easy to use and easy to find. Ladies and gents, raise a glass for ground-beef-style soy crumbles!!!
What Are They?
Ground-Beef-Style Soy Crumbles
1 cup (average): 125 calories, 2.5g fat, 380mg sodium, 11g carbs, 6.5g fiber, 0.5g sugars, 20g protein -- PointsPlus® value 3*
Of its Meatless Ground Crumbles, Boca says they're "as versatile as they are nutritious. Made with soy protein, [they transform] any dish into a satisfying, well-rounded meal." MorningStar Farms boasts that its Meal Starters Grillers Recipe Crumbles are "recipe-ready veggie crumbles perfect for your favorite chili, spaghetti sauce, tacos and more." We agree with both brands! This ingredient is the ULTIMATE ground-beef swap!
Why Do We Love Them?
They're Meatless and Swap-tastic - While we aren't vegetarians, we know LOTS of people are. Plus, we try to keep our fatty-meat intake to a minimum. These crumbles are the perfect stand-in for red meat of the ground variety.
They're Speedy - All you have to do is heat 'n eat these frozen crumbles. Whether you do that in a microwave, on the stove, or in the oven is up to you. Compared to raw ground meat, this stuff is a major time-saver!
They're Handy for Single-Serving Recipes - Possibly the biggest bonus is how perfectly suited these crumbles are for any recipe for one. If you frequently cook for yourself, you know what a pain it can be to cook up just a little ground meat and save the rest of the uncooked stuff in the package. Keep a bag of these in the freezer, and you'll always be prepared for a simple single-serve meal!
Taco Bell Swaps - Today's honoree is PERFECT when it comes to re-creating the Bell's ground beef. Stir in the right seasonings, and pair with HG-friendly tortillas and other guilt-free ingredients. Wrap it up, or layer it on!
Burger-Inspired Recipes - Taking a quick trip to Obvious Town, these crumbles are predictably great when making burger-ish dishes that typically call for ground beef. Slightly less expected? The surprising places we add "beefy" goodness, like crunchy appetizers and egg scrambles!
Comfort Food - When making a hearty dinner that includes ground meat, you generally have to cook it ahead of time, getting an extra pan dirty in the process. Shepherd's pie, for example. We love it, but it can take a LONG time to make! This recipe speeds up the process, thanks in part to those glorious crumbles.
Twin Alert! Ground Meat - If you're just not that into today's featured ingredient, but you wanna whip up recipes like the oodles listed below, click here for tips on how to swap it out for ground beef or turkey!
