ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Dear HG,

I love to entertain and whip up party drinks, especially in spring and summer. But most of the cocktail recipes I come across are loaded with excess calories and sugar. Do you have any summery cocktail recipes that won't break the calorie bank?

Cocktail Carly

Hi Carly,

Glad you asked! Cocktails are fun, but they tend to be pretty high in calories. Luckily, I've got some fantastic drink recipes that are both party pleasers and totally guilt-free. Check out these warm-weather sips for the adults-only crowd…

Margaritaville - HG's Magical Low-Calorie Margarita should be a staple at every poolside gathering. If you're looking for a few flavorful twists, click here for a Rockin' Razzy Rita, a Tropical Mango-rita Slushie, and more!

Creamy Cocktails - Who doesn't love a drink that tastes like dessert? Make a round of Coconut Cream Pie Cocktails to give your shindig some tropical flair, or whip up some Orange Creamsicle Martinis for a spin on a fruity freezer-aisle treat. And of course, there's the classic Piña Colada Freeze!

Chocolatey Concoctions - If you're looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, a Mounds Bar Martini or a Chilly Chocolate Mudslide should do the trick. For a berry-good spin on that 'slide, try the Frozen Fudge-Dipped Strawberry Mudslide. And definitely check out this ChocoMint Martini, inspired by a subscriber's request for a "Thin Mint" martini swap!

Fruity and Fabulous - Pomegranate, passion fruit, orange... I've got fantastically fruity cocktails with all of these flavors and more. Try the Pink Pomegranate Passion, Semi-Paloma Splash, My Oh Mai Tai, Upside-Down Tequila Sunrise, and my "frojitos" (frozen mojitos) in watermelon and pineapple. Of course, there's an HG swap for a strawberry daiquiri. And I didn't forget about the sangria... Click!

Get Creative & DIY - Wanna concoct your own beverages? Check out this guide to bar stocking, HG-style! It's packed with need-to-know info like must-have guilt-free mixers and the importance of fresh ice. And here are some new ready-to-drink cocktails and low-cal liquors!

For an entire book of cocktails (plus party foods!), pick up a copy of Hungry Girl Happy Hour, an adorable and handy li'l cocktail-packed recipe book. And don't miss next Thursday's email for a new pineapple martini recipe and a fruity mocktail pitcher. (If you don't get the free daily emails, sign up here!) Now have fun, and drink responsibly...

Dear HG,

I recently bought PB2 for the first time, and don't know what to do with it! How do I use powdered peanut butter, and what are some recipes I can make with it?

Puzzled 'Bout Powdered PB

Hi Puzzled,

GREAT question! I love sharing the wonders of powdered peanut butter. PB lovers who are looking for a lower-calorie option will go nuts for it. For those of you who don't know about the stuff, here's a little background... Powdered PB is made from defatted peanuts, and each tablespoon has only around 25 calories and less than a gram of fat (PointsPlus® value 1*). Two companies that make it are Bell Plantation (PB2) and FitNutz. You can buy it online, or find it in select stores. There are all sorts of varieties, including chunky, sugar-free, chocolate, and raspberry.

If you wanna turn powdered PB into peanut butter, mix it with water. I like to start by stirring just a little H2O into a serving of the powder, and then slowly adding more until the consistency is perfect. Add a little sweetener, too, if you like your PB on the sweet side. Then you can use it anywhere you'd use regular peanut butter. Try it in HG recipes like these, and you'll save even more calories and fat than you're already saving by using reduced-fat PB (and other HG swaps).

You can also add the powder straight to certain foods and drinks to impart PB flavor without affecting the texture much. For example, stir it into fat-free vanilla yogurt (regular or Greek), sugar-free pudding snacks, smoothies and shakes (use guilt-free base ingredients like light vanilla soymilk and fat-free ice cream)... even pancake batter (click for picks)!

Looking for full-on recipes? Find the first-ever HG recipes featuring powdered peanut butter in the new all-desserts cookbook, Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 Just Desserts. There are PB Cheesecake Chocolate Cupcakes, a PB & Chocolate Chilly Whoopie Pie, and a Freezy PB S'mores Sandwich!

Powder power!
