The Results Are In:
Shopping for Health Is Hard!
"Shopping for Health" Survey Results (and HG Tips 'n Tricks to Avoid Common Pitfalls)!
The Food Marketing Institute and Prevention magazine released the results of their 21st annual "Shopping for Health" survey, and those answers offer a pretty compelling peek inside the mind of the modern shopper. Here are some key findings, plus HG advice...

Less Confusion, But Money Issue Remains - Consumers reported a better understanding of what's healthy and what's not. (HOORAY!) However, many still said they don't eat as much health food as they'd like because of high prices. Eating smart on a budget CAN be done... Click here and here for HG help!

The Motivation to Change Is Lacking - Sixty percent of respondents find it hard to break existing eating habits and develop smarter tactics. If you need a nudge in the right direction, here's a boatload of exciting ideas and resources!

Parents Aren't Consistently Stocking Healthy Foods - The majority of moms and dads surveyed said they buy nutritious foods for their children "at least sometimes," but only about a third of parents said they ALWAYS do. Click here for kid-friendly foods you'll love too. Plus, here's a slew of recipes that kids will dig!

Overall, consumers are trying to eat healthier. Commonly reported strategies include switching to healthier snacks, avoiding junk food, and preparing healthy recipes at home. All good things... Keep it up, consumers!

The Buzz…
One way to get kids to eat their vegetables? Put veggies in their frozen yogurt! All summer long, Yogurtland is rolling out Looney Tunes themed yogurt, sorbet, and toppings… and some of the options include VEGGIES. Up first is Bugs Bunny Carrot Cake fro yo made with real carrots, and it can even be topped with shredded carrots. Kooky! And coming later this month: Kosmic Fruit Kaboom Sorbet, inspired by Marvin the Martian. Shhh, it's made with spinach... ***Super-exciting online food find: The delicious (and super popular at the HG HQ) Quest Bar Protein Bars now come in White Chocolate Raspberry!!! Each bar has 190 calories and 8g fat, plus 17g fiber and 20g protein (PointsPlus® value 5*). INSANITY! (The good kind.) Nab some NOW... ***Feeling glum? Draw a cupcake! A new study found that merely sketching sweet stuff and fattening foods put subjects in a better mood. The same effect was not found when subjects drew vegetables. Oh well... Food drawings are calorie-free! ***The benefits of fish oil just keep on coming! Results of one recent study suggest fish oil supplements can protect the heart from stress, and another study's findings indicate that consuming oily fish (those high in good-for-you fatty acids) may lower the risk of breast cancer. Pass the salmon! ***And now we turn to the wild world of state-fair fare. Click and see some of the wacky options available this summer at the Minnesota State Fair. We're intrigued by the bacon cannoli, but we CANNOT wrap our heads around the fried pickles 'n' chocolate. Who is coming up with these things? And that's all we've got. HG out!

Veggies in Fro Yo?
Now THAT's Looney!
TUNE-IN ALERT! Don't miss Lisa (HG herself) making guilt-free treats from Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 Just Desserts on Marie Osmond's daytime show! See it TOMORROW, 7/16, on The Hallmark Channel at 12pm/11c. And remember, you can get the book for a GREAT price online... Click to shop around!
