Diet Detective's 2013 Airline Snacking & Food-Service Ratings!
It's ba-aack! We love checking in with the Diet Detective to see what to expect during upcoming air travel. And DD's latest report on airline food offerings has arrived! This year, Virgin America and Air Canada are at the top of the heap. Virgin even has a Travel Light menu! Plus, we found an impressive Turkey Protein Platter meal option on the airline's website -- it's packed with wholesome stuff and has 410 calories, 13g fat, and 23g protein. And Air Canada works with Food with a Conscience to create some of its menu items. We're jazzed about the Greek yogurt with blueberry and pomegranate -- just 150 calories. Alaska Airlines, United, and JetBlue all deserve snaps for improvement. We love that JetBlue offers free PopCorners Popcorn Chips. But Allegiant Airlines earned the Diet Detective's "Shame on You" award, due to poor food selection (why so many servings in your individual snacks?) and unhelpful media folks. The worst offender reported is the Carl's Jr. cheeseburger kids' meal with onion rings and fruit punch, totaling 990 calories! Obviously, you can choose better sides, BUT STILL. In first place is Hawaii, while Mississippi came in last. And good news: Health in the USA is improving overall!
