NEWS

PAM Simply Coconut Oil Spray - Coconut oil is all the rage, and this new product makes it easy to use just a little bit for cooking. The flavor is mild and won't make everything taste like a piña colada! A 1/4-second spray is officially free of calories and fat, but a more reasonable amount does have both. Standard cooking spray has about 5 - 10 calories and 0.5 - 1g fat per 1-second spray, and we'd say it's safe to assume those stats apply here. Not bad at all! Find it at Walmart Supercenters and Meijer supermarkets.

BetterOats Oat Fit 100 Calories Oatmeal - A name like BetterOats isn't a stretch considering this company has many terrific hot cereals. The newest additions? Flavored instant oats in 100-calorie pouches -- perfect as satisfying snacks. Plus, every pouch has a fill line for water... It's like a built-in measuring cup! In Apples & Cinnamon, Maple & Brown Sugar, and Cinnamon Roll, each pouch has 100 calories, 2g fat, 210 - 250mg sodium, 18g carbs, 3g fiber, 0 - 1g sugars, and 3g protein (PointsPlus® value 3*). Find them at supermarkets and Target locations.

Bolthouse Farms Greek Yogurt Dressing - These days, when it comes to yogurt, if it ain't Greek, it ain't chic! We still love BF's regular yogurt dressings, but the new protein-boosted Greek lineup definitely has our attention. Bold Blue Cheese, Creamy Basil, Cucumber Dill, and Peppercorn Ranch... Mmmm! Each 2-tbsp. serving has 40 calories, 2.5 - 3g fat, 210 - 280mg sodium, 2g carbs, 0g fiber, 1 - 2g sugars, and 2g protein (PointsPlus® value 1*). Rolling out now in select Walmart Supercenters, SuperTarget locations, and supermarkets. Look for 'em in the refrigerated section.

Why We Snack (and What's Smart to Snack On)!
Snacking is a part of life -- a delicious one. Well, recently released details from a Hartman Group study break down exactly why we turn to snack foods, and we've got guilt-free picks for every circumstance. (P.S. There's some overlap, which is why the numbers below total over 100 percent.)

73 Percent = Physically Driven. Respondents said they mostly munch when they're truly hungry or in need of an energy boost. For these times, turn to filling foods with fiber and/or protein. Think fat-free Greek yogurt, light string cheese, fruit, veggies, jerky, and bars like KIND and Quest. More satisfying emergency snacks are just a click away.

36 Percent = Emotionally Driven. You're bored; you eat. You're happy; you reward yourself with a treat. You're sad; you comfort yourself by snacking. When this happens, go for portion-controlled craving-busters. If you need something sweet, have a VitaTop or a low-fat frozen fudge bar. Gotta have something salty and crunchy? Snag a single-serve bag of popped chips or 97% fat-free microwave popcorn. Click for more tips on beating emotional eating.

28 Percent = Socially Driven. This type of snacker is described as "wanting to bond around food without the commitment to a full meal, people looking to discover new tastes." Sounds like a party! Check out the recipes from the "Girls' Night" and "Happy Hour" episodes of Hungry Girl.

FYI, aimless snacking represents a whopping 27 percent of all snacking -- AVOID IT!

The Buzz…
The fun Greek yogurt varieties from Chobani just keep on coming! On the way: Chobani Oats (yogurt and fruit with steel-cut oats), Chobani Seasonal (Watermelon and Pink Grapefruit for summer!), and more Chobani Simply 100 flavors (Key Lime and Pineapple Coconut), just to name a few. They'll begin rolling out in the next couple of months... We'll keep you updated! ***According to new data, posting calorie counts on menus DOES generally result in people making lighter choices… except when the low-calorie options are lumped together into a single category. Then diners tend to skip the low-calorie section entirely. Oh dear. Take note, restaurateurs! ***Bad news: The monstrosity known as the KFC Double Down (a sandwich with two fried chicken patties as the "bun") is back through May 25th. The good news? Our slimmed-down swap ideas still satisfy! ***Do you ever get "hangry," a.k.a. so hungry that you become angry? A new study found that the lower people's blood sugar dropped, the more hostile they felt toward their spouse. No joke, the study involved voodoo dolls and pins. What's for dinner, honey? ***There are two stops left on The Hungry Girl Diet book tour... one on the West Coast and one on the East! Tomorrow, HG Lisa will be in San Diego, signing books, giving away free stuff, answering all your questions, taking selfies with fans... Fun, fun, fun! And a week from Thursday, she'll be in Rochester, NY. Click for full tour info... And that's all we've got! HG out!
