Science Finds We Can Train Our Brains to Crave Healthy Food
Do you prefer pepperoni pizza to spinach salad? Cheeseburgers to low-fat cottage cheese? Congratulations! A) You’re human, and B) you may be able to flip those preferences around! This is huge. We dream of enjoying the taste of broccoli more than the taste of ice cream. Here's the need-to-know info...

The study reveals two pieces of good news for food lovers. Researchers at Tufts University and Massachusetts General Hospital discovered that it's not only possible to train our brains to prefer healthy low-calorie foods over unhealthy high-calorie foods, but it's also possible for those of us who are more or less addicted to unhealthy tastes to overcome that addiction.

How'd they do it? Participants were instructed to consume a diet high in protein and fiber, but low in carbohydrates. Another important part of the process: Rather than let themselves get hungry (which is when cravings for unhealthy foods kick in), participants were allowed to eat as much as they wanted of certain low-calorie foods to stave off hunger pangs. At the end of the test period, brain scans showed that the participants had stronger positive reactions to photos of healthy and low-calorie foods.

Translation: To enjoy healthy foods, you have to start eating them. Sure, it's easier said than done... So check out these better-for-you HG recipes that are crave-worthy too. Report back in a few months, and let us know if you're suddenly craving cauliflower!

Recall Alert: Amy's Spinach
Products & More!
The Buzz…
Check your freezer: Due to potential listeria contamination, several companies and stores are recalling frozen organic spinach and spinach-containing products. Amy's is one of the most notable, recalling over 73,000 cases of frozen meals. Simply Balanced (distributed exclusively at Target), Wegmans', and other brands are also recalling products. Read up for the latest, and make sure nothing in your freezer is on the recall list! ***If you're a fan of the Veggie Sliders that White Castle has been serving up on a limited-time basis, you'll be happy to hear that they're now part of the permanent menu. The burgers feature mini Dr. Praeger's patties and three sauce options -- the Sweet Thai sauce only adds 10 calories to the 150-calorie slider. (The other sauces are bad news.) The bun itself has 70 calories -- we'd get two sliders, and double up the patties on one bun! ***Here's some interesting Finnish research that shows just how important exercise can be. As reported in the New York Times, researchers observed sets of identical twins with very similar exercise habits and diets until their late teens, after which one twin exercised significantly more than the other. A few years later, the data showed that the more sedentary of the twins generally had higher body fat, lower endurance, and worse brain function. Cough *Housewalking* cough. ***If you're concerned about cholesterol, grab a pen, and get ready to take notes. Here are 10 superfoods that may help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) levels, from our pals and partners at About.com Health. One bowl of almond-topped oats, coming right up. And that's all we've got. 'Til next time... Chew the right thing!
