CHEW THE RIGHT THING

Bite it!
HG's Bacon Swirl Cinnamon Rolls

Bringin' Home the Bacon...
That's right. We rolled bacon into cinnamon rolls. And they're still low in calories. These sweet 'n savory treats will disappear so quickly, they might actually be magical. Abracadabra!

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 25 minutes

Ingredients:
Filling
2 tbsp. brown sugar (not packed)
2 tbsp. Truvia Natural Sweetener (or another no-calorie granulated sweetener)
2 tsp. light whipped butter or light buttery spread (like Brummel & Brown)
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Dash salt

Rolls
8 slices center-cut bacon or turkey bacon
1 package refrigerated Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations Seamless Dough Sheet, or HG Alternative

Icing
1/3 cup Truvia Natural Sweetener (or another no-calorie granulated sweetener)
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 tbsp. light whipped butter or light buttery spread (like Brummel & Brown)
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tbsp. fat-free plain Greek yogurt

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray.

In a medium bowl, thoroughly mix filling ingredients until uniform.

Cook bacon in a skillet or microwave until cooked through but not crisp, about half the time stated on the package.

Roll out dough into a large rectangle of even thickness, with the long sides on the top and bottom. Evenly top with filling.

Slice dough vertically into 8 strips, and lay a strip of bacon on each strip of dough. Roll up each dough strip from the bottom, and place on the baking sheet, one swirl side up.

Bake until golden brown, 12 - 15 minutes.

To make the icing, in a small microwave-safe bowl, whisk sweetener with cornstarch until uniform. In another small microwave-safe bowl, combine butter, vanilla extract, and 2 tbsp. water; microwave for 20 seconds, or until water is hot and butter has melted. Mix well, and add to the sweetener mixture. Vigorously whisk until completely smooth and uniform. Microwave for 1 minute and 20 seconds, or until mixture is fully bubbling. Stir in yogurt, and drizzle over rolls.

HG Alternative: If you can't find the Recipe Creations dough, go for Pillsbury 90 Calorie Reduced Fat Crescent roll dough. (The products are nearly identical.) Then firmly pinch/seal up the perforations for a seamless sheet.

HG Tip: Keep the dough refrigerated until ready to use. Taking it out even a few minutes earlier can make it harder to work with.

Fight it!
Bacon Cinnamon Rolls, Average

Bacon Bust
Sometimes, it seems like the Internet exists for the sole purpose of bacon: funny memes about bacon, fashion inspired by bacon, and (most importantly) crazy recipes using bacon. One recipe trend we found floating around the web? Rolling up a strip of bacon into a cinnamon roll. Because, let's be real: Who doesn't want bacon-packed cinnamon rolls? The problem is that when the outlandish nutritional stats for ordinary cinnamon rolls are combined with the fattening nature of regular bacon… Well, you can see why we wouldn't recommend following just any recipe. So we updated our 2009 cinnamon rolls with even-better-for-you ingredients and added that bacon-y twist. Here's your daily online bacon fix... You're welcome!
