CHEW THE RIGHT THING
HGs Tremendous Tiramisu!
Tiramisu is one of those things that tastes different wherever you get it. But
no matter where you go and who makes it, one thing is pretty much
guaranteed...the stuff is PACKED with fat and calories. That is, unless you
have HG whippin' some up for you in the kitchen. Who says this fluffy,
creamy, cocoa-rific creation cant be enjoyed without breaking the calorie-
bank? Um, people who don't know about HG's Tremendous Tiramisu, that's
who! Our rockin' recipe could easily serve two, but we calculated the
nutritionals below for the entire dessert, just to make it a fair fight. HG Tip:
For a truly authentic tiramisu, add one ounce of rum to the espresso or
coffee. Just dont forget to add about 60 calories to the nutritionals.
8 Trader Joes Soft Lady Fingers OR 6 Specialty Bakers Ladyfingers*
1/2 cup cooled, strong-brewed, flavored coffee (or espresso); sweetened w/
Splenda or other no-cal sweetener
1/4 cup light ricotta cheese (not part-skim, light)
2 tbsp. Cool Whip Free
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. Splenda
1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
Begin by lining up half of the ladyfingers next to each other on a serving
dish. Drizzle cooled coffee over ladyfingers until desired saturation is
reached. In a bowl, combine cheese, Splenda, Cool Whip and vanilla, and
mix well. Spread half of this mixture on top of ladyfingers and top with half
of the cocoa. Next, layer remaining ladyfingers on top of dish. Again, cover
with coffee. Spread remaining cheese mixture on top. Lastly, sprinkle cocoa
over dish. Best when eaten immediately. Serves one or two, depending on
how hungry you are.
Serving Size: Entire humungous dessert!
Macaroni Grills Tiramisu
Do not adjust your computer screens; the nutritional information below is
real. Even we did a double take when we learned how ridiculously fat and
calorie-infested Macaroni Grills Tiramisu is (and we see these things all the
time). Tiramisu may be Italian for pick me up" -- but those numbers are a
total downer. We do love this layered, spongy dessert -- but not nearly
enough to wipe out an entire days worth of calories on it. Steer clear of this
cake-tastrophe at all costs. Eeeks!
Serving Size: 1 dessert
*Trader Joes Soft Lady Fingers can be found at Trader Joes locations.
Specialty Bakers Ladyfingers are available in the bakery section or bread
aisle of most supermarkets. Similar products can be substituted; nutritional
info will vary accordingly.
