HG FYI: If you prefer to use a natural dog, we recommend Applegate Uncured Hot Dogs -- Turkey (50 calories, 3.5g fat), Chicken (60 calories, 3g fat), or Beef (70 calories, 6g fat). Just adjust the recipe stats accordingly.

Another HG FYI: This recipe calls for Sargento cheese due to its impressively low sodium count. Feel free to use any reduced-fat Swiss cheese; however, the total sodium may vary.

Doggone It!

Residents of different regions love to put their own spin on American favorites. New York pizza is nothing like Chicago-style deep dish. Order chili in Cincinnati, and you'll get something that's unlike anything you'd get in Texas. And barbecue... Don't even get us started on the countless variations throughout the country! One other wildly varied American classic is the humble hot dog. While New York is known for its street-vendor dogs sold from water baths, and we wrap ours in bacon here in Southern California, Kansas City has a style all its own. We LOVE the combo of Swiss cheese with sauerkraut and brown mustard. But when you add cheese to pork sausage that's nestled in a carby bun... the stats rack up FAST. So we set out to re-create that local flavor with our own lightened-up recipe. We enlisted the help of a few HG staples, like reduced-fat cheese and an extra-lean frank. Spoiler alert: It's AMAZING. Stock up on the ingredients, and serve 'em up later this week for the Fourth of July!
