Bite it! Hungry Girl's Pineapple Smash Burger
HG's Pineapple Smash Burger

A Smashing Success!

This burger is a beefy-pineapple slam dunk! Need proof? Try it NOW...

Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes

Ingredients:
1 light hamburger bun (or HG Alternative)
4 oz. raw extra-lean ground beef (4% fat or less)
1 tbsp. liquid egg whites (about half a large egg white)
Dash ground ginger
Dash garlic powder
2 tbsp. roughly chopped pineapple chunks (previously packed in juice)
1 slice Sargento Reduced Fat Colby-Jack or Medium Cheddar cheese
2 tsp. sweet Asian chili sauce

Directions:
Toast bun halves.

In a medium bowl, thoroughly mix beef, egg whites, and seasonings. Evenly form into a patty about 4 inches wide.

Bring a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray to medium-high heat. Lay patty in the pan, and top with pineapple. Use a spatula to press pineapple into the beef, slightly smashing the burger.

Cook for 3 - 4 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preference.

Top patty with cheese, cover, and cook until melted, about 30 seconds.

Spread chili sauce onto the bottom half of the bun, and top with the cheese-topped patty. Finish with the top bun half, and enjoy!

HG Alternative: Can't find light hamburger buns, which have around 80 calories? Try a 100-calorie flat sandwich bun, like an Arnold/Brownberry/Oroweat Sandwich Thin. Just adjust the calorie count accordingly!

HG FYI: This recipe calls for Sargento cheese due to its impressively low sodium count. Feel free to use any reduced-fat colby-jack or cheddar cheese; however, the total sodium may vary.

Fight it! Applebee's Sweet Asian Pineapple All-In Burger
Applebee's Sweet Asian Pineapple All-In Burger

Pine Away…

Applebee's newest trick is smashing the toppings into the burgers before they're cooked. Pretty brilliant, huh? We thought so too... and then we checked the nutritional info. Are you sitting down? Even without the side of fries it's served with, each burger has over a thousand calories! (If you just fell over, it's your own fault. We warned you.) But still... Just hearing about the Asian pineapple burger had us so excited, we knew we needed to give it the HG treatment. Extra-lean beef, a light bun, and reduced-fat cheese set the stage for a lightened-up swap. Our burger saves you 700 calories... And that’s what we call smashing!
