Subway's New Fresh Fit Menu Has Arrived...

Hooray for Subway! They've recently introduced their new Fresh Fit menu
featuring some pretty great stuff. The new combo meals include a choice of
one of their 6" subs that contain 6 grams of fat or less, either diet soda,
water or 1% milk, and a side of one of the following -- sliced apples, raisins
or Baked! Lay's chips. There's even a kiddie version of these meals, too!
Kudos to Subway for taking the time to design this menu, which meets the
American Heart Association's nutritional standards. Rumor has it they're also
going to remove those ridiculously fatty, hi-cal, "low-carb" (formerly known
as Atkins) wraps from their menu now. Let's be honest; no one would be
sorry to see those silly things go (they never had us fooled). Let's just hope
they hold onto their low-carb tortillas -- those are a nice, low-calorie, high-
fiber alternative to their bread options.

New & Crunchy!

If you enjoy foods that makes noise when you chew 'em, you'll wanna know
about these finds...

LesserEvil Krinkle Sticks - Oh lord. Be careful around these seasoned potato-
y treats. Not only do they come in super-cute boxes and fun flavors, but they
also taste like crispy baked french fries. The good news is these baked
snacks only have 110 calories and 2.5g of fat (plus 2 Gs of fiber!) per 1-cup
serving. The bad news is it's HARD to NOT eat the entire 2.5-serving box in
one sitting.

Barbara's Bakery 100-Calorie Organic Mini Cookies - If the idea of 14 super-
crunchy mini cookies in a pouch excites you, then you'll flip over these. They
come in Oatmeal, Chocolate and Ginger and have just 2 grams of fat per
pack.

Flat Earth Baked Fruit & Veggie Crisps - The bags say they're "impossibly
good," so be careful -- because these baked chips pack in approximately 130
calories and 5 grams of fat per serving. While they've got a healthy spin with
the fruit 'n veggie angle, when it comes to fat and calories these are
nutritionally similar to standard reduced fat chips; so try not to overdo it.
(Pssst...there's a coupon on their website!)

The Buzz...

Yeah, this isn't exactly news, but you should know that after all these years,
Chinese food is STILL horrendously bad for you. The CSPI (Center for
Science in the Public Interest) points out the shockingly high amounts of fat,
calories and sodium in what most people would think are healthy dishes. An
order of lemon chicken (without rice!) can pack in 1,400 calories and 13
grams of saturated fat. Our advice? Avoid anything fried, opt for brown rice
instead of white, and order everything steamed -- then just add a little bit of
low-sodium soy sauce. ***A new study from UC Davis confirms that canned
and frozen veggies DO provide valuable nutrients, just like the fresh kind.
Click here for more info on that. ***Add apples to the growing list of foods
that can be considered heart-healthy. New research suggests that apples
(along with pears and red wine) can decrease the risk of mortality from both
coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease in post-menopausal
women. Go apples!!!! ***How would you like a cell phone that can tell
you what your BMI is? A new cell phone from Philips being targeted towards
women does just that and MORE. Fancy! ***Don't miss the HG feature in the
new issue of People StyleWatch with Drew Barrymore on the cover. It has all
of our favorite workout snacks. Weeeee! OK, that's all we've got...HG out!
A Wok Warning!
