WEEKLY WEIGH-IN

Surviving 7-Eleven... You can do it -- HG is here to help! Summer is a time
for road trips. And road trips mean many stops at convenience stores...
Here's the lowdown on what's safe to eat there, and what to run screaming
from!

MUFFIN MAYHEM

Don't think for one second that a muffin is a better choice than a donut, or
even an egg, cheese, and sausage biscuit. Muffins contain tons of fat and
calories, and the muffins at 7-Eleven are no exception. How bad are they?
Well, 7-Eleven's Blueberry Muffin has 450 calories and 14 grams of fat, their
Apple Spice Muffin has 520 calories and 4 grams of fat, and their Banana Nut
Muffin has an insane 665 calories and 26 grams of fat! With stats like those,
you might as well have a hot fudge sundae for breakfast! (HG Note: We are
NOT recommending ice cream for breakfast.) Our advice? Grab a few
VitaTops from home before you leave!

SANDWICH ALERT!!!

A turkey sandwich may seem like a smart and sensible choice, but at 7-
Eleven it's a bigtime blunder. The problem is the sandwiches there are pre-
made. That means you can't order yours sans mayo, cheese or other fatty
extras. That's why, for example, the healthy-sounding Grilled Turkey
Sandwich at "The 7" has a surprising 640 calories and 18 grams of fat. And
watch out for the 540 calorie, 22 grams of fat Big Eats Tuna Salad Sandwich.
Tuna may be protein-packed, but when it's smothered in globs of mayo, it
becomes a diet disaster!

X-TREME MAKEOVER: SODA EDITION

7-Eleven's 52-oz. X-treme Gulp Mug should be called the XXX-treme Gulp
Mug, because the number of calories it contains when full of soda is
absolutely obscene. Fill your mug a quarter-full with ice, and your soda will
cost you just under 500 calories and 125 carbs. EEEKS! Skip the ice, and the
numbers will be even higher. And, worst of all, if you go for the 64-oz.
Double Gulp, you'll be sucking in over 600 calories of sugary goo through
that straw. Our advice? Switch to diet, if you must have soda (water or
unsweetened iced tea would be better, of course). And, unless you're running
a marathon, get a 12-ouncer. No normal human needs 52-ounces of sugary
chemicals.

BEST BETS

Here are some convenience store staples that won't wreck your diet...

* Ready Pac fruit packs
* Baked chips or soy crisps
* Carrot sticks
* Lean lunch meats
* Non-fat/Low-fat cottage cheese
* Mini cereal boxes
* Low-fat cheese sticks
* Low-cal, high fiber snack bars

Slurp THIS!

Can't imagine a summer without sipping Slurpees? No worries. Though a
regular 16-oz. Slurpee contains about 240 calories, a 16-oz. Crystal Light
Slurpee has just 64 calories. Weeeee!
