Spotted on Shelves...

Slim-Fast Protein Snack Chews - We love small pouches that contain several
smaller edible things. These little protein-packed snack treats from Slim-Fast
are tasty, chewy, sweet, and individually wrapped. And a whole pouch of 'em
(FIVE) contains just 100 calories and 3.5g fat, but no fiber (POINTS® value
2*). They come in two flavors -- Caramel (good) and Peanut Butter (better).
Click here to find the Chews near you!

Amy's Quarter Pound Veggie Burger - If, like us, you dream of over-sized
frozen veggie burger patties (yeah, we need to get out more), you will go
gaga over this ginormous burger from our BFFs over at Amy's Kitchen. It's
HUGE and has a totally reasonable 220 calories, 5g fat, and 6g fiber
(POINTS® value 4*). It's got walnuts, veggies, grains, and even some BBQ
sauce inside!!!

Philosophy's Candy Cane Bath and Body Collection - Okay, we know these
items aren't edible, but since we recently broke the news to you about
peppermint causing you to eat fewer calories (even just sniffing it!), we
thought this new line of minty stuff from Philosophy would interest you.
There's a 3-in-1 multipurpose product (shampoo, body wash, and bubble
bath!), a scrub, a flavored lip shine, and MORE! All calorie-free with a
POINTS® value of 0*!

In-Flight Bites -- Friend or Foe?

We gave you our take on airplane eats a while back on Yahoo!, but now our
pal Charles Stuart Platkin (aka the Diet Detective) is weighing in with up-to-
the-minute info on the subject. Mr. DD checked out options on all the major
airlines, and here's our wrap-up of what he found...

Top Four Airlines for Healthy Snacking (and info on some of their offerings):

1. United (offers yogurt and mixed fruit for breakfast)
2. Continental (features turkey sandwiches with light mayo on the side as a
snack option)
3. Midwest (serves roasted chicken salad in a pita for lunch and dinner)
4. Delta (has Kashi cereal and fruit as part of their fancy EATS menu)

Northwest and Southwest airlines came in at the bottom of the pack. Please
keep in mind, in-flight food options vary based on so many things -- flight
time, domestic vs. international, class, etc. So make your choices carefully.
In general, airlines are serving WAY too many carby treats with little
nutritional value, so your best bet is to pack your own on-the-go snacks and
whip 'em out of your carry-on when you're hungry (that's what we do!).

Choosy Moms Choose Mom•Logic

If you're a mom (or know one), check out the brand-new momlogic.com. It
bills itself as a site "for thinking moms who don't have time to think."
Mom•Logic is jam-packed with breaking news about health, food and family,
plus it features celebrity mom interviews and other mom-related stuff to help
women stay connected to each other and to the world. Every now and then,
they even link to HG (so you know they're cool!). Recent stories include one
on some of the WORST foods in the world according to Men's Health, and a
feature on the Jessica Seinfeld/Sneaky Chef controversy (Sneaky Chef was
out first, but Jessica didn't steal the idea -- both books ROCK, and that's our
two cents, not Mom•Logic's!). The site is in beta mode (still in testing stages),
but check it out, click around, and tell all the moms you know about it STAT!

The Buzz...

A recent study found that kids will actually eat healthy foods at school. It
seems school lunch sales were NOT affected when cafeterias offered
healthier foods. Even better is the fact that these meals don't necessarily
cost more to produce. Perhaps we'll start to see kids everywhere dining on
healthier foods soon?! ***After 10 years on the air, Food Network has
canceled Emeril Live. Emeril will continue on with his other show, The
Essence of Emeril, but his live show (the one with the band) will tape its last
episode on 12/11. It's the end of an era... ***100-calorie foods continue to
populate store shelves. Sometimes these foods are AWESOME and other
times, well, they're just laughably tiny portions of regular products. Have you
spotted any particularly silly and disappointing 100-calorie foods? WE WANNA
KNOW! Email us and tell us all about it. That's all we've got. HG out!

CHEW ON THIS:
Yesterday, December 2nd, was National Fritters Day. Fritters are small cakes
typically made of batter and then deep-fried. Good thing it's too late to
celebrate!
