Hungry Girl Today: 01.25.08

GIRLS BITE OUT

These foods may officially be for tots or tweens, but we know good guilt-free
snacks when we taste 'em. So ignore all the stares and snickers -- and dig
in, people!

Lean 'n Tween

Disney Balanced Nutrition Bars, Chocolate Peanut

PER SERVING (1 bar): 80 calories, 3g fat, 120mg sodium, 11g carbs, 4g
fiber, 3g sugars, 5g protein -- POINTS® value 1*

These bars may feature Hannah Montana on the box, but we think the bars
themselves are the breakout star here. Each delicious bar is packed with
sweet, chewy peanut & chocolate flavor. And even though they're not
enormous (they're for kids!), they're super-filling, thanks to 4 grams of fiber.
They even have cute little pink sprinkles on them!!! Can you get more
Hungry Girl than that?! These bars also come in Cinnamon Apple (with the
gang from High School Musical on the box), and each of those has just 70
calories and 1.5g fat, plus 4g fiber (POINTS® value 1*). BTW, these bars
may be easiest to spot on the East Coast, but we're told they should be
hitting the rest of the country soon (very soon, we hope!).

Sippity Oooh-Ahhh!

Sipahh Milk Flavoring Straws

PER SERVING (1 straw): 10 - 15 calories, 0g fat, 0mg sodium, 3g carbs, 0g
fiber, 2g sugars, 0g protein -- POINTS® value 0*

Okay, we mentioned these a while back when we tried them at a food show.
But we're happy to report that they've been popping up EVERYWHERE lately.
These see-thru straws are filled with dozens of little flavor beads. Pop one
into a cup of some version of light milk (our choice is Unsweetened Vanilla
Almond Breeze), and your milk will become infused with flavor while on its
way to your mouth. Fun times! They come in Chocolate, Cookies & Cream,
Banana, and Strawberry. Click here to find a store near you that stocks 'em,
or click here to snag some online!

'Mame Dearest

Seapoint Farms SpongeBob SquarePants Organic Edamame, Soybeans in
Pods

PER SERVING (one 2-oz. pouch): 38 calories, 1g fat, 11mg sodium, 3g carbs,
1.5g fiber, 1g sugars, 3g protein -- POINTS® value 1*

Edamame for kids?! Why not! We love these cute little pouches of soybeans
still in the pods. And with such impressive nutritionals, you could actually eat
TWO pouches for a total POINTS® value of 1*. Seapoint Farms also makes
Dora the Explorer shelled edamame, but we think that "The Wonder Veggie"
(those are Seapoint's words, not ours!) is much more fun to eat straight out
of the pod. Find these healthy snacks in the freezer aisle.

Tot Hot HOT!

Don't let the babies bogart all the good snacks... these preschool chews 'n
sips ROCK!

Gerber Graduates Finger Foods, Fruit Puffs and Veggie Puffs

PER SERVING (60 - 80 pieces, about 1/2 cup): 25 calories, 0g fat, 0mg
sodium, 6g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g sugars, 0g protein -- POINTS® value 1*

If you crave crunchy, cerealish snack foods, visit the baby food aisle for
these Puffs immediately. The sweet 'n airy things come in Apple Cinnamon,
Peach, Sweet Potato, Sweet Corn, Cherry, Strawberry-Apple, and Banana.
Pop 'em straight, stir some into yogurt, make trail mix with them... We've
even added them to our cereal bowl (but they get mushy in milk fast, so
chew quickly)!

Gerber Graduates for Toddlers, Mini Fruits and Mini Veggies

PER SERVING (3 tbsp. - 1/4 cup): 25 - 35 calories, 0 - 0.5g fat, 0 - 30mg
sodium, 5 - 8g carbs, <1 - 1g fiber, 3 - 7g sugars, 0g protein -- POINTS®
value 1*

If you ask us, the whole freeze-drying trend is the best thing to happen to
fruits and veggies in decades. You get to eat a huge amount of crispy, flavor-
packed stuff for not a lot of calories. And while some of our fave freeze-dried
foods are still a little hard to come by, nearly every grocery store we've ever
shopped in has had these in stock! They come in Apple, Sweet Corn,
Banana Strawberry, and Banana Pineapple. Not only does this stuff taste
great and travel well (it hardly ever complains on long car rides!), but it's
also super-healthy, since there's nothing at all added to it. So wheel your
cart into the baby food aisle next time you're in search of a super snack to
chew.

Minute Maid Fruit Falls

PER SERVING (1 pouch): 5 calories, 0g fat, 15mg sodium, 2g carbs, fiber
n.a., <1g sugars, 0g protein -- POINTS® value 0*

We've never outgrown the urge to stab a pouch of sweet liquid with a plastic
straw and slurp it down (it's fun!). And when we saw that these futuristic-
looking silver packs have just 5 calories each, we were (and continue to be)
all over 'em. Fruit Falls falls somewhere between flavored water and fruit
juice, and it's delicious and refreshing. It comes in both Berry and Tropical,
but the Tropical is WAY better.
