Hungry Girl Today: 3.17.08

Spotted on Shelves...

Weight Watchers Soft Cookies - These new treats come in both Oatmeal
Raisin and Chocolate Chip. Each cookie has 90 calories, 2.5g fat, and 3.5 -
4g fiber. They're not HUGE, but there's something to be said for a soft baked
cookie that has a POINTS® value of 1. Heads up! The Oatmeal Raisin ones
have a fairly strong clove flavor -- so if you're a fan of that spice, you'll
dig 'em!

Sara Lee Bites, Original Cheesecake - Cheesecake fans will likely fall for
these frozen nuggets that have just 20 calories and about 1g fat each. Don't
get all giddy just yet. You don't get all that much cheesecake for 20 measly
calories. But a 100-calorie 5-Bite serving (POINTS® value 2*) isn't bad!
These 20-calorie Bites also come in Chocolate Cheesecake and Strawberry
Cheesecake.

Snyder's of Hanover Pretzel Crackers - If you have a thing for flat pretzels,
these are for you. In Original (yum!), Pumpernickel & Onion (interesting),
and Butter Sesame (tastes like scratch 'n sniff stickers). Each 1-oz. serving
(about 8 - 10 crackers) has 120 calories, 2.5g fat and 1 - 3g fiber (POINTS®
value 2*).

Holiday Fun, HG Style...

Easter, St. Patrick's Day... It's holiday time, peeps!

Green Foods Scoop! - Just in time for St. Patty's Day, our close personal pal
The Diet Detective himself (aka Charles Platkin) has the 411 on the
nutritional value of iceberg lettuce, celery, and parsley (yup, all green!).
Don't wait another SECOND. Click here for the full scoop.

Fun with Chocolate Bunnies - Those big chocolate Easter bunnies (even the
hollow ones) can have as much as 1,000 calories and 50 grams of fat.
YEEESH! Stick with Marshmallow Peeps this year, friends. But let's just say
you WERE to indulge and swallow a rabbit-shaped hunk of chocolate. The
part you'd choose to gnaw on first could reveal a lot about your personality.

News You Can Sip!

Lots going on in the world of drinkables this week...

Cranberry + Energy = Cranergy - Brand-new from Ocean Spray, this
Splenda-sweetened energizing juice drink contains vitamins, antioxidants and
half the calories of other energy drinks (it has 35 calories per 8-oz. serving).
Available in Cranberry Lift and Raspberry Cranberry Lift.

Powerade Zero, Coming Soon! - In case you found the original 10-calories-
per-serving Powerade Option to be too high in calories (um, it was just 10
calories!), here's a brand-new version that's calorie-free. In mixed berry,
strawberry, and grape flavors.

V8 V-Fusion Light - V8 V-Fusion now comes in TWO Light flavors -- Peach
Mango and Strawberry Banana. Each 8-oz. serving has 50 calories. However,
we're STILL not on board with calling ANYTHING that tastes fruity (and not
veggie-like) "V8". Come on, people -- we're not wrong, are we?

The Buzz...

Scary lemon news. A recent study out of New Jersey found that lemon slices
served in various restaurants were contaminated with all sorts of bad things.
Click here to read more about it (warning... it's pretty gross!). And avoid the
old "squeeze and drop" of that lemon slice in your Diet Coke or water... at
least for the time being. In fact, you might wanna start toting some True
Lemon around. ***If you've ever purchased and taken Airborne to help get
rid of a cold, you may be eligible for a refund. While the stuff is packed full of
vitamins that are good for your immune system, ads implying that it could
actually cure or prevent a cold are what got the company in trouble. Airborne
has settled a class action lawsuit and is paying out more than 23 million
smackers. Click here if you'd like to collect. ***Hey! TWO new studies have
found that NATURAL trans fats may not be as harmful to cholesterol levels as
artificial ones. But don't use that as an excuse to chow down on buttered
steaks every night of the week! Read more about the study here. That's all
we've got. HG out!
