ASK HUNGRY GIRL

HG,

I was recently introduced to Starbucks' Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino
Blended Crème. I went online and found out that a Tall (12 oz.) with whip
has 11 grams of fat and over 400 calories (POINTS® value 9*). Can you
suggest a way to make it lower in calories and fat? PLEASE!?!

Frappuccino Freak

Dear Frappuccino Freak,

I love your question because it gives me the PERFECT excuse to break out
one of my favorite recipes EVER -- our Strawberry Cloud! A while back we
created the PERFECT swap for this creamy berry Frap. Our version has just
119 calories and 1g fat (POINTS® value 2*). It ROCKS, and it's so easy to
make!!! Check it out...

Strawberry Cloud

PER SERVING (entire recipe): 119 calories, 1g fat, 102mg sodium, 21g carbs,
2g fiber, 14g sugars, 4g protein -- POINTS® value 2*

Ingredients:
2/3 cup frozen strawberries (plain -- NOT in syrup!)
5 oz. light vanilla soymilk
2 tsp. Fat Free French Vanilla Coffee-mate powder (dissolved in an oz. of
warm water)
1 oz. Torani Sugar Free Strawberry Syrup
3 no-calorie sweetener packets (like Splenda)
3 large ice cubes
2 tbsp. Fat Free Reddi-wip

Directions:
Place all of the ingredients in a blender, except for the Reddi-wip. Blend on
high speed for 30 - 45 seconds. Pour, and top with the Reddi-wip.

Strawberrylicious!

Dear Hungry Girl,

Please help! I love creamy deli salads made with real mayonnaise, but due
to health issues (from having too much fat in my diet) I have had to give up
using that stuff. Do you have any suggestions for what I can use instead?
Thank you.

Mayo Maven

Dear Mayo Maven,

I'm happy to report that you can still enjoy deli salads without all the fat. In
my opinion, using full-fat mayo in those types of salads is nothing but a huge
waste of calories anyway. I never EVER use full-fat mayo -- just ONE
tablespoon alone has 100 calories and 11g fat (POINTS® value 3*). And I
NEVER eat pre-mixed tuna, egg, or chicken salad. It's just too risky, with all
the fatty mayo that gets added. (Subway's 6" tuna sub has 530 calories, 31g
fat, and a POINTS® value of 12*. Craziness!) But since I like those salads
too, I make 'em at home with fat-free mayo and more. Here are some of my
favorite mix-ins and the reasons why I love 'em:

Dijonnaise - This is, hands down, my #1 go-to swap for full-fat mayo. It has
just 15 calories and <1g fat per tablespoon, but it's creamy and has a nice
mild mustard kick.

Fat-Free Mayo - I use this stuff a lot as well (only around 10 calories per
tablespoon), but since it doesn't taste as good as the real thing, I often
combine it with any of the other items on this list. It's GREAT that way!

Plain Fat-Free Greek Yogurt - This stuff is so thick and creamy, it works
PERFECTLY mixed with tuna, chicken, salmon, etc. Fage Total 0% is the best,
and it has less than 10 calories per tablespoon. It's a little tart, but I love it. I
usually use it as a base and then mix in spices and other goodies. But even
straight, it is an AWESOME swap for fatty mayo.

Mustards - There are PLENTY of flavored mustards that are fantastic. Take
risks and try some. Just read the labels carefully (most are very low in
calories and fat-free, but there are some crazy exceptions out there!).

Hot Sauces & More - Believe it or not, Frank's RedHot is an awesome addition
to your deli salads. Give it a whirl! Another obvious favorite of mine is Vivi's
Original Sauce, which is good mixed with pretty much anything (I am
obsessed with it).
