HG's Too-Beautiful Turkey Burger
Gobble-y Good!
We gotta give it up to Ruby T for inspiring this tasty swap. A big fat turkey
burger topped with mushrooms and Swiss cheese sure sounds good to us.
But one look at the freakish nutritionals on Ruby's version sent us right to the
kitchen to develop a guilt-free makeover. Prepare to have your socks
rocked, people!
Ingredients:
1 small light hamburger bun (with around 80 calories and at least 3g fiber)**
1 plain lean turkey burger patty (like one by Foster Farms, Jennie-O, or
Perdue)
1 slice 2% milk Swiss cheese
1/2 cup sliced baby bella mushrooms
2 small lettuce leaves
2 tomato slices
Optional: pickles, ketchup and mustard
Directions:
Split bun in half, and toast lightly. Place the lettuce and tomato slices on the
bottom half of the bun. If you like, add a few pickle chips, a squirt of
ketchup, and/or some mustard. Set aside. Cook turkey patty in a pan
sprayed with nonstick spray (refer to packaging for specific time and stove
heat). Once cooked, remove patty from the pan, add it to the bottom half of
the bun, and top it with the slice of Swiss while the burger is still hot. Remove
the pan from heat and re-spray it with nonstick spray. Over medium heat,
cook the mushroom slices until tender (about 3 minutes), stirring
occasionally. Place the mushrooms over the cheese-topped patty. Top with
the other half of the bun and enjoy!
**Wonder Light and Nature's Own Double Fiber Wheat buns are great light
buns. But if you can't find a light bun, just use 2 slices of high-fiber light
bread instead (see HG's supermarket list for our faves)!

Ruby Tuesday's Bella Turkey Burger
Ciao, Bella!
Tsk, tsk, Ruby Tuesday. A turkey burger is supposed to be a GOOD choice
when eating out. But that freakish fowl offering of yours is one of the worst
items on your menu, nutritionally speaking! Over a thousand calories and
more than SIXTY grams of fat?!? Ludicrous! Even scarier? Those stats don't
include the fries that come with this fat-infused turkey burger. Factor those
in, and you're looking at a completely embarrassing total of 1,424 calories
and 78g fat (POINTS® value 34*)! Sheesh... even with a serving of HG's
Bake-tastic Butternut Squash Fries, our swap would only cost you 370
calories and 11.5g fat. So stay far, far away from Ruby's crazy creation, and
instead get turkey-happy and gobble up HG's Too-Beautiful Turkey Burger!
