Hungry Girl Today: 08.04.08

Spotted on Shelves...

Quaker High Fiber Instant Oatmeal - Infusing stuff with fiber is all the rage
right now, and the latest product we've spotted with an insane fiber jolt is this
new hot breakfast cereal from Quaker. Each packet is crammed with 10
grams of the stuff! A packet also serves up 160 calories, 2g fat, 34g carbs
and a POINTS® value of 3*. Available in Cinnamon Swirl and Maple & Brown
Sugar. (BTW, your average packet of oatmeal contains about 3g fiber.)

Healthy Choice Asian Inspired Café Steamers - Check out the snazzy flavors
these babies come in -- Five Spice Beef & Vegetables, Sweet & Spicy Orange
Zest Chicken, Sweet Sesame Chicken, and General Tso's Spicy Chicken. Just
steam in the microwave and chew! These aren't supposed to be out for a few
more weeks, but we've spotted two kinds in our local market (the Five Spice
Beef and the Sweet Sesame Chicken), each with 310 - 330 calories, 5 - 6g
fat, 49 - 50g carbs and 6 - 7g fiber (POINTS® value 6*). Weeee!

Eggo Bake Shop Swirlz - Oooooh, our waffley pals over at Eggo have gotten
creative and put out a line of "Bake Shop" frozen treats. We're not in the
habit of pushing sugary pastries for b-fast, but the new Bake Shop Swirlz in
Cinnamon are a fantastic swap for freakishly fattening Cinnabon cinnamon
rolls. Your average cinnamon roll contains more than 300 calories, nearly
15g fat, and 42g carbs (POINTS® value 7*), but one of these things has only
150 calories, just 3g fat, and 27g carbs (POINTS® value 3*). The swirly
toaster treats also come in Strawberry, and those have 140 calories, 3g fat,
and 27g carbs (POINTS® value 3*).

Starbucks Breakfast Sandwiches... They're Baaa-aaack!

Remember we told you that Starbucks was saying goodbye to their breakfast
sandwiches because the aroma was interfering with coffee sales? People
must've complained BIGTIME (probably HGers saddened by the thought of
losing their precious on-the-go spinach 'n feta wraps!). So the peeps over at
The 'Bucks have decided breakfast is BACK ON... Woohoo! This time around
they'll be using less butter as well as a new type of cheese, in order to make
the wraps less odiferous (aka smelly). Very interesting! In the meantime,
feel free to take advantage of this recipe swap we created several months
ago to prepare for the loss of our favorite b-fast offering. IT ROCKS HARD!

Things You NEED to See or Know...

Why Dieters Don't Always Lose Weight - Check out this video made by the
super-smart Leigh Peele. It shows how most people who assume they're
being serving-size savvy by using measuring cups and spoons are actually
taking in way more calories due to inaccurate measuring. Warning: This may
hit home, people!

Pure Lies From Purely Juice? - You know how we LOVE outing companies
who've been busted for false label claims? Check this out. Our pals over at
POM were so sure that their competitor Purely Juice wasn't being truthful on
its bottles -- which touted "100% pure pomegranate juice" -- that they took
the company to court. The outcome? The Purely Juice products in question
were found to contain mostly cane sugar and corn sweetener, with a very
small amount of actual pomegranate solids. Yikes! However, the folks at
Purely Juice insist they've stopped production of the faulty juice, and have
since resolved the problem. Click here to download PJ's side of the story,
and click here for the full findings from POM. You be the juice jury...

The Buzz...

Frozen Yogurt News! TCBY is proud to announce Waffle Cone Wednesday!
Each hump day, at participating locations, you can get a ginormous yogurt-
filled waffle cone for 99 cents instead of the usual $3 or so. Yowsa! Our
advice? Fill it with one of the fat-free yogurts and use the cone mainly as a
bowl (only chew a few bites of it -- the calories in that thing add up!). ***Be
On TV Alert! If you're an outgoing, TV-friendly chef in the Tri-State area (or
know someone who is), here's a chance to apply to be on a brand-new Food
Network show. City Lights TV is searching for FOUR chefs to appear on a new
reality series. Click here for all the details! ***Heads up, oatmeal chewers!
The instructions on new tubes of Quick Quaker Oats (just the 42-oz. ones)
are incorrect! For an optimal oatmeal eating experience, click here to view
the correct prep directions. ***Did you know that people who live in older
neighborhoods weigh an average of eight pounds less than people who live in
newer 'hoods? The reason is that the older communities were built with
pedestrians in mind, while modern areas are way less walker-friendly. Just
something to keep in mind if you're planning to move. ***Are you getting
enough fiber in your diet? Most Americans aren't. And now Benefiber is
making it that much easier for you to add the stuff to your life with new
Benefiber Stick Packs. Each single-serving, flavorless powder packet
contains 15 calories and 3 grams of the Big F. Just empty one into some
water and you are good to go. Find 'em at Wal-Mart. Ooooh, and click here
for a free sample, while supplies last! That's all we've got. HG out!

CHEW ON THIS:
Today, August 4th, is National Chocolate Chip Day (which, oddly enough,
also occurs on May 15th!). We say you enter chocolate chips into the search
bar on the HG homepage (or just click here!) -- then pick a recipe at random!
