ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Dear Hungry Girl,

What are your TOP FIVE snacks of the moment? I need some low-calorie
foods that will fill me up and keep me feeling satisfied... HELP!

Snack Attack

Dear Snack Attack,

Hi! Great Q! Here are some of my current go-to snacks and why I like them
so much...

1. Egg scrambles. I am a PROTEIN maniac. I eat scrambles made from Egg
Beaters ALL THE TIME. I keep the calories down to 100 - 150 by using low-fat
or fat-free cheeses. And I keep it satisfying by adding lots of veggies.

2. Fruit salad or whole fruit. A heaping cup of fruit salad -- with grapes,
melon, pineapple, etc. -- is one of my favorite snacks. I also love Fuji apples.

3. Turkey slices and pickles. This is an old standby, and I never get tired of
it. I wrap lean turkey slices around pickles. I LOVE THIS!!!

4. VitaTops. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but a VitaTop is definitely my
#1 go-to sweet snack. One of these 100-calorie treats is far and away THE
best thing to eat when you're craving chocolate or a cake-like treat. BTW,
the Triple Chocolate Chunk Tops are the BEST!

5. Soup. I LOVE soup, and I eat it as a snack A LOT. My favorite soups
include Progresso Light Southwestern-Style Vegetable (and pretty much all of
Progresso's soups!), Amy's Chunky Tomato Bisque, and CP Shrimp Wonton
Soup (YUM!).

Happy snacking!

HG,

How do you figure out the calories and POINTS® value when you make
brownies or cake with just diet soda? I can't find the "how to" info anywhere!
Can you help me? Thanks!

Recipe-Challenged

Dear Recipe-Challenged,

No worries. This is an easy one. To figure out the nutritionals when you make
that stuff from just the boxed mix and a can of calorie-free soda, here's what
you do. Look at the box and see how many calories, fat grams, etc., are in
each serving of JUST THE MIX ALONE. Since you are only adding diet soda,
there will be NO added calories once your item is baked (despite what
the "as prepared" stats on the box say). So those numbers per serving of the
mix are the total amount of calories in 1 serving of the dessert you are
making. If you want a different serving size than what's given (for example,
it says "makes 12 servings" but you cut your brownies into 8 pieces), just
multiply each of the mix stats by the number of servings the box says it
makes. Then divide those totals by the actual number of servings you're
making. After that, go ahead and calculate the POINTS® value as you would
with any other food. Easy, right? BTW -- I LOVE using diet cream soda with
cake mixes. It's sooooo good!

HG Heads Up! On Monday we wrote about a new product that's been spotted
called Arnold Select Sandwich Thins. Turns out there's a 3rd flavor we
neglected to mention -- 100% Whole Wheat. Thanks for the bazillions of
emails about that, HGers. You're on it!
