Hungry Girl Today: 10.13.08

Spotted on Shelves...

Wheat Thins Fiber Selects - If you LOVE Wheat Thins but have been bummed
about their lack of fiber (a lame 1 - 2g per serving), check THESE out. In 5-
Grain and Garden Vegetable, these addictively delicious, slightly sweet yet
savory crackers have 120 calories, 4 - 4.5g fat, 22g carbs, a whopping 5g
fiber, and 2g protein per serving of 13 - 15 crackers (POINTS® value 2*).
Nice!

Litehouse Dips in 100-Calorie Cups - If you like to dip things into other things
and then eat them, here's a find for ya. Litehouse (famous for its dips and
dressings) now makes Chocolate Dip and Reduced Sugar Caramel Dip in 100-
calorie containers. Each little tub has 0.5 - 1.5g fat, 25 - 29g carbs, 4 - 7g
fiber, and 0 - 1g protein, giving them each a POINTS® value of 1*. Woohoo!

Arnold Select Sandwich Thins - We have gotten a bazillion and one emails
about these uniquely shaped, sandwich-sized flatbreads. Everyone is
FLIPPING over 'em. They're available in two varieties -- Multi-Grain and
Whole Grain White. Each one has 100 calories, 1g fat, 22g carbs, 5g fiber,
and 4g protein (POINTS® value 1*). Find these and try them ASAP.

Restaurant Calorie News...

Yum! Brands -- the parent company of KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John
Silver's, and A&W Restaurants -- has decided to start posting calorie counts
on the menu boards at ALL of its company-owned restaurants. This is
exciting news... but you may have to wait 'til 2011 to see these stats when
you're out and about. Yup, it could take that long (annoying, we know). In
the meantime, you can find most of that info online, and the company's quick
to point out lower-calorie options already available at all their restaurants
(click and scroll to see). So no worries! And speaking of restaurants and
calories, looks like California is following in NYC's footsteps. A new CA law
will require chain restaurants with 20 or more locations to post nutritional info
on menus and menu boards. CA residents will see these numbers no later
than 1/1/11, and in-store nutritional brochures will be required by next July.
Be patient, peeps!

Stuff You Didn't Know You Needed...

Show Me the Gummi - These are soooooo gorgeously realistic-looking, you
are going to want to CHOMP right into them. Please don't (if you enjoy your
teeth) -- these gummi bears are NOT edible. They're actually li'l lights that
add a touch of color and brightness to any room... SOOOOOOOOOO
FREAKIN' CUTE! And now they're available at Target at reduced prices.
These things are made by Jellio -- click here to see more of the amazing pop
culture stuff the Jellio geniuses are cooking up over at their NY studio. We
LOVE these guys!

Kooky Kitchen Playpals - Part cooking utensil, part action figure, you CAN'T
look at Head Chefs kitchen utensils and NOT smile. With bendable bodies and
giant heads, these colorful creations are fully functional and fully fun. The
line includes a spoon, a spatula, a whisk, a measuring cup, and a basting
brush. Yes, these are supposed to be for kids, but WHO are they kidding? We
are SO ordering these.

Say SQUEEZE! - If you NEED to get every last drippy drop out of your
teabags, you MUST get your mitts on the Squeasy Tea Bag Squeezer. It's
made of stainless steel and allows you to get the most out of your teabags
without burning your precious fingers. Brilliant!

The Buzz...

HEY... did you know that Weight Watchers Mobile launched last month? Yup,
you can have access to all of your planning and tracking tools (including the
life-saving and world-famous WW calculator!) on most BlackBerry, iPhone,
and Windows Mobile 6 devices. Sweet! Click for more on that. ***Burger
King is going TOTALLY trans fat free. That's great because trans fats are
horrible for us. But it doesn't mean BK's fried items are good for us or any
lower in fat and calories. Click here for our survival guide for the big Burger
K. ***Did you know some kid cereals are 50% sugar? Ratings released by
Consumer Reports found that 11 of the top 27 cereals marketed to kids have
as much sugar per serving as a glazed donut. CRAZY! Some of the better-for-
you kid cereals come from our pals at General Mills (Cheerios, Honey Nut
Cheerios, Kix) and our friends at Quaker (Life). Cereals like Apple Jacks and
Cap'n Crunch didn't fare well. But no surprises there, really. Click here for
the full 411. ***You know we're pistachio-obsessed here, so we are
THRILLED whenever new research that supports pistachio-chewing pops up.
Here's some now -- a recent study out of Penn State examined how eating
pistachios could help reduce cardiovascular risk and can actually lower
cholesterol -- its findings suggest chewing more than a few on a consistent
basis for best results. Wanna know more? Click this. That's all we've got. HG
