Spotted On Shelves...

Mann's Sunny Shores Light Bites - When it comes to veggies, the fine folks at
Mann's have got it goin' on (pardon the dated expression). Light Bites are
AWESOME. You get an assortment of crunchy and/or tasty produce (celery,
carrots, apples, tomatoes, etc.) with a fantastic dipping partner -- Classic
Hummus, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Sun Butter (made from sunflower
seeds), or Vanilla Yogurt Dip. Each pack contains two servings (or one, if
you're like us!), totaling 2 cups of produce and 2 tbsp. of dip. Each serving of
the yogurt and hummus varieties has 50 - 60 calories, 1 - 2.5g fat, 8 - 11g
carbs, 2 - 3g fiber, and 1 - 2g protein (POINTS® value 1*). A serving of the
Sun Butter pack has 100 calories, 6g fat, 10g carbs, 2g fiber, and 2g protein
(POINTS® value 2*). These could potentially ROCK YOUR FACE OFF. (But
let's hope they don't because your face comes in handy for chewing.)

NEW 100 Calorie Bars - There can never be too many portion-controlled
candy bars in the world. And these are super-exciting! The newbies are...
drumroll please... Snickers and Milky Way!!! Each bar has 4 - 5g fat, 13 - 16g
carbs, 0g fiber, and 1 - 2g protein (POINTS® value 2*). Not bad! Thanks to
the chocolate fiends at Mars for adding these to their line-up.

Ore-Ida Steam n' Mash Potatoes - No-guilt mashies?! Steam n' Mash allows
you to steam your own pre-peeled and cut potatoes right in the bag and then
mash 'em up with as much or as little butter, milk, etc., as you like. These
come in four varieties -- Cut Russet Potatoes, Cut Sweet Potatoes, Three-
Cheese Potatoes, and Garlic Seasoned Potatoes. An unprepared serving of
the first three (3/4 cup - 1 cup) has 80 - 90 calories, 0 - 0.5g fat, 16 - 20g
carbs, 1 - 3g fiber, and 1 - 2g protein (POINTS® value 1*). A 3/4-cup
serving of the Garlic Seasoned Potatoes clocks in at 110 calories, 4g fat, 17g
carbs, 2g fiber, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 2*). With numbers like that,
feel free to spruce 'em up with a little Brummel & Brown and/or your light
milk of choice.

HG ALERT: Lean Cuisine Recalls Almost 900,000 Pounds of Frozen Meals!

Heads up! Serious issue here. And while we warned you about this last week,
it is definitely worth repeating. If you eat Lean Cuisine meals regularly (or
have any in the freezer at all), you need to know that THREE different
chicken meals have been recalled -- Café Classics Pesto Chicken with Bow
Tie Pasta, Spa Cuisine Classics Chicken Mediterranean, and Dinnertime
Selects Chicken Tuscan. Those meals are considered potentially dangerous
because they may contain bits of hard blue plastic. The packages in question
were distributed to retailers nationwide. The company issued the recall after
receiving several complaints from consumers. Click here for the full details
on the production codes and dates on the recalled boxes. Please spread the
word to anyone and everyone you know. OOOOH, BREAKING NEWS! A
GREAT new website has launched. USFoodSafety.com will keep all of us
informed about the latest food safety issues. You can even sign up for free
email notifications about recalls, allergen alerts, and more. Fantastic!

Put Your Decaf to the Test. DO IT!!!

Are you OBSESSIVE about making sure your coffee is decaffeinated? Do you
know someone who is (like your pal who threatens to pummel the waiter if
he serves up regular instead of decaf)? Good news! An innovative new
product called D+caf Caffeine Test Strips can actually tell you whether or not
your beverage has more than 20mg of caffeine per 6-oz. serving. Usable
with both hot and cold beverages, they give you results in under a minute.
According to the product website, studies show that up to 30% of decaf
coffees ordered at stores and restaurants contain unacceptably high levels of
caffeine. Yikes! Put an end to the madness by showing up with your D+caf
Caffeine Test Strips. Then let the fun begin. We tried these out ourselves
and, from what we can tell, they totally work! Pssst... these make
EXCELLENT stocking stuffers, so CLICK away, people!

The Buzz...

Craving chocolate? Walk it off! New research shows that a brisk walk could
actually tame a craving for the sweet stuff. Just don't take a brisk walk in the
direction of a candy store. Click for more on that study. ***Congrats,
creative HGers! We have heard from TWO of you who are finalists in the
Chicken of the Sea Mermaid Jingle Jam contest. Click here and here to vote
for our adorable and talented pals. They need you! ***Guess what the
healthiest city in the U.S. is? Time's up! It's Burlington, Vermont. According
to a recent report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Burlington is among the top metropolitan areas in terms of exercise, and it's
among the lowest in rates of obesity, diabetes, and illness. Well congrats,
and la-dee-da to you, Burlington! ***Have you seen the fancy-schmancy
new Tic Tac treats and their packaging? Tic Tac Chill mints are newer,
hipper, larger Tic Tacs that also happen to be sugar-free. Same cooling
goodness, and still 1 1/2 calories each. Nicely done, TT! That's all we've got.
HG out!

CHEW ON THIS:
Yesterday, November 23rd, was National Cashew Day. We're actually thrilled
that we missed it, 'cuz the easy-to-overdo-it-with cashew is our favorite nut
(Richard Simmons, you're a close second).
