Post-Workout Snacking a No-No?

Are you the type that quickly gobbles up food immediately after working out?
Not so fast, Chompy. Two separate studies found that eating (or consuming
high-carb drinks) after working out may actually hamper weight loss. Serious
athletes are often encouraged to "fill their tanks" with food after working out,
but the rest of us regular people (a.k.a. casual exercisers) should steer clear
of replenishing those calories we burn, at least for a few hours. According to
experts, in order to reap and maintain the benefits of your workout, your
body should remain in calorie deficit. So hopping off the treadmill and
prancing straight into the kitchen = a bad idea if you're trying to drop a few
lbs. Another study suggests that timing isn't the issue. Instead, the amount of
calories consumed -- specifically the amount from carbs -- proved to be the
dominant factor in the lasting benefits of the exercise. Click here for more on
this.

The Buzz...

It's that time of year again, people. If you live in Los Angeles, DO NOT miss
Divine Design, a 5-day shopping extravaganza to benefit Project Angel Food
(an organization that prepares and delivers 10,000 nutritious meals a week
to homebound people with life-threatening illnesses). To find out all about
this star-studded event, the bargains, the FUN, and how you can get
involved, click here. AND if you print out this email and show up with it, you'll
get $10 off general admission. DO IT! ***There's still time to tell your pals
about HG and WIN LOTS OF PRIZES. Our 600,000th Subscriber Contest
continues. Click for the full details. ***Do you believe in the five-second
rule? You're not alone. According to poll results in Parade magazine, 53% of
Americans will happily chew food that has fallen on the floor as long as it
stays there for five seconds or less. Um, EWWW. ***You've probably heard
that breakfast-eaters take in fewer calories throughout the day, but a new
study shows that as your b-fast calories increase, so do the calories you
consume during the rest of the day. So eat that morning meal, but don't
overdo it. And guess what? That's all we've got. HG out!
