ASK HUNGRY GIRL

HG,

I have a couple of girlfriends who (like me) are OBSESSED with Hungry Girl,
Weight Watchers, and guilt-free foods. I am wondering, could you help me
out by putting together a TOP ATE list of gift ideas for fellow guilt-free-food
addicts?

Holiday Help Needed

Dear Holiday Help Needed,

Thanks for the email. I'm glad you and your friends are HG-obsessed. Please
tell them I said thank you!!! And sure, here's a TOP ATE list of gift ideas just
for you -- but hurry because time is running out...

1. Vitalicious Baskets - Go to Vitalicious.com and check out some of their gift
baskets. If your friends are HG and WW fans, they HAVE to love VitaTops!

2. LesserEvil Holiday Stuff - Check out the holiday items from the peeps at
LesserEvil (they're famous for their Kettle Corn and Krinkle Sticks). They
have good, cute, DELICIOUS stuff!

3. Make Your Own - Get a basket and fill it with HG-approved goodies like
Quaker Quakes, Gnu Bars, Popchips, etc., etc. You could even throw in a few
kitchen gadgets like a Misto sprayer or a cute ice cream scooper.

4. Gayle's Miracles - Gayle is the 30-calorie-truffle lady. Her chocolate candy
is gooooooood. She has fancy-schmancy gift boxes. Check 'em out.

5. HG Book/HG Stuff - Check out our store for some fun HG swag and the
cookbook -- all fun and good gifts if your pals like Hungry Girl. (Sorry for the
shameless self-promotion -- at least I didn't put it at the top of the list!)

6. Just Tomatoes, ETC.! - These masters of freeze-dried fruits and veggies
have a SLEW of gift baskets. Yum!

7. Nancy's Healthy Kitchen - If you don't know Nancy, you NEED to. Her
nothing-artificial, 30-calories-or-less cookies are AMAZING, and they come in
adorable little boxes. Trust me -- people LOVE these.

8. Cocktail Fun - This is a great gift for 21-and-overs (and one I have given a
few times). Put together a bottle of vodka, Torani Sugar Free Syrups, some
sugar-free drink mix packets, cute cocktail glasses, etc., and you'll have a
guilt-free "girls night" party gift. You could even include a few of our guilt-
free drink recipes. Soooo much fun!

Good luck with the gifting -- and Happy Holidays!

Hungry Girl,

I love those plain avocado sushi rolls from the supermarket. I know the
cucumber rolls are low in calories and POINTS®, but what are the stats for
the avocado ones -- no fish, just avocado? I need to know if I have to give
them up! Thanks, HG!

Lovin' Sushi

Dear Lovin' Sushi,

As you may already know, I am sushi-obsessed. I wish I could give you a
blanket answer that would be accurate for all supermarket sushi across the
board, but unfortunately I cannot. No one can. That's because rolls vary
greatly in size and contain different amounts of rice, avocado, etc. Also, a
packaged sushi roll from the store is often much larger than a single roll
ordered a la carte at a restaurant. Here's the best thing to do to get a fairly
accurate idea of what you're taking in. (I have done this with my favorite
store-bought sushi.) Buy one of the rolls and take it apart. The seaweed it's
wrapped in is virtually calorie-free, and veggies like sprouts and cucumber
are so low in calories that I wouldn't worry about them. Take all the rice and
measure it. Do the same for the avocado (and any other ingredients the roll
contains). An ounce of avocado (about 2 tbsp. mashed) contains 45 calories,
4g fat, and 2g fiber (POINTS® value 1*), and 3 ounces of cooked white sushi
rice contains around 135 calories, 0g fat, and 0g fiber (POINTS® value 3*).
It's important to WEIGH your rice to get accurate stats. Then with some
simple math, you can figure out approximately how many calories are in
those rolls. We tried this out at the HG HQ with an average-sized avocado roll
from the supermarket. Our 12-piece roll had about an ounce of avocado and
5 1/2 ounces of rice, for a total of around 300 calories, 4g fat, and 2g fiber
(POINTS® value 6*). Not bad. We were curious, so we actually disassembled
a few more rolls from various stores. We found that most market rolls (12
regular pieces or 8 large ones) contained 4 1/2 - 6 ounces of rice and only 2
tbsp. - 1/4 cup of filling. Good to know! BTW, if you don't want to waste your
food, you can eat your roll even after you've taken it apart (it just may not
be a "roll" anymore)! With a little detective work, you can figure this stuff
out. It's worth it -- especially if this is a staple in your diet. For lots more
sushi info, click here (then scroll). Good luck!
