Spotted on Shelves...
Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations - Shhhh... here's a little secret! This stuff
is actually Reduced Fat Crescent Roll dough -- without the seams. So
basically you get one giant flaky sheet of dough instead of eight tear-apart
triangles. 1/6th of the package has 120 calories, 6g fat, 16g carbs, <1g fiber,
and 2g protein (POINTS® value 3*). Look for it in the fridge section.
New G2 and Gatorade Tiger Focus - Gatorade's 25-calorie-per-cup electrolyte
beverage G2 now comes in three new flavors -- Blueberry-Pomegranate,
Strawberry-Kiwi, and Lemon-Lime. Also, Gatorade's line endorsed by Tiger
Woods has just been reformulated and renamed Tiger Focus -- it now offers
25-calorie options, too. G2 is packed with B vitamins, and Tiger Focus
promises to enhance concentration. These are great if you work out a lot but
aren't into over-caloried sports drinks. Heads up -- there are a few 8-oz.
servings per bottle. BTW, we like the True Force (a.k.a. blue watermelon)
Focus drink best.
Cabot Reduced Fat Natural Cheeses - Cabot knows cheese, people! The
company's 50% Reduced Fat block cheeses come in Sharp Cheddar, Pepper
Jack, Cheddar with Omega-3 DHA, and Jalapeño Cheddar -- an ounce (a 1-
inch cube) has 70 calories, 4.5g fat, <1g carbs, 0g fiber, and 8g protein
(POINTS® value 2*). There's also a 75% Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar
version with 60 calories, 2.5g fat, <1g carbs, 0g fiber, and 9g protein
(POINTS® value 1*) per ounce. Click here to find a store near you that
carries Cabot, or click here to order online. (Pssst... there are 3/4-oz. mini
bars of 50% Light Cheddar with a POINTS® value of 1* each!)
Do Low-Carb Diets Hurt Your Brain?!
A recent study out of Tufts University has found that diets low in carbs could
actually impair your memory. The study looked at two groups -- one on a
practically carb-free diet and the other on a balanced low-calorie diet. The
low-carb group performed worse on tests measuring memory-related skills.
Researchers explain that since the brain runs primarily on glucose (which
comes from carbs), low-carb diets can affect your ability to learn and
remember things. And while the low-carb dieters did rank higher when it
came to attention skills and task-oriented tests, experts chalk that up to the
fact that they had more protein and fat in their diets. The low-carb group
members showed improvement about a week after adding carbs back to
their plates. Sooooo, what have we learned here? EAT A WELL-BALANCED
DIET! Doy. And get your carbs from high-fiber healthy stuff like fruits,
veggies, and whole grains.

foods pretty much anywhere.
The Buzz...
A new cologne called Flame has arrived, courtesy of our pals at Burger King.
The scent will have guys smelling like juicy Whoppers with just a single
spritz. Soooo, if you want your man to smell flame-broiled and meaty, click
here. What's next? Big Mac bath oil? KFC shampoo? AAAAAAHHHH! As scary
as Flame sounds, we're oddly eager to sniff it. It's selling FAST, so check
back often if it's out of stock! ***Just a heads up. If you're one of those
people who hates ALL artificial sweeteners and loves stevia, YOU are in luck.
Now that the FDA has declared the natural, zero-calorie sweetener safe for
use in foods and beverages, it's hitting the mainstream. Packets of Truvia
natural sweetener (a blend of stevia and erythritol) can already be found on
supermarket shelves. (We tried 'em. They're not bad.) And PepsiCo, Coca-
Cola, and a bazillion other beverage companies are about to launch soft
drinks sweetened with stevia -- but will they taste as good as Coke Zero?
***Oooooh, a contest! Want a chance to win FREE Birds Eye Steamfresh
Meals for Two for a whole YEAR? Click here to find out how. ***How'd you
like to help build a new food database of info and recipes (sort of like a
Wikipedia of food)? Check out Foodista. And have fun! That's all we've got.
HG out!
