Hungry Girl Today: 1.19.09

Spotted on Shelves...

South Beach Living Fiber Fit Cookies - In Double Chocolate Chunk and

Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk, each pre-portioned pack contains 100 calories, 5g

fat, 17g carbs, 5g fiber, and 1g protein (POINTS® value 2*). Haven't

sampled these yet, but we like what we see so far!

Litehouse Dressings - Our dip and dressing pals over at Litehouse have got

some stuff worth seeking out! We've recently spotted their Dressing, Sauce &

Marinade (yep, 3 products in 1!) in Tangy Orange Citrus, Toasted Sesame

Ginger, and Mild Thai Peanut -- a 2-tbsp. serving has 35 - 50 calories, 0 - 3g

fat, 6 - 10g carbs, and 0 - 1g fiber (POINTS® value 1*). Then there's the

Pomegranate Blueberry Vinaigrette Dressing with 20 calories, 0g fat, 5g

carbs, and 0g fiber (POINTS® value 0*) per 2-tbsp. serving. And last but not

least, the Salsa Ranch Dressing & Dip -- 2 tbsp. of that has 50 calories, 5g

fat, 2g carbs, and 0g fiber (POINTS® value 1*). Our fridge is FULL of these --

they're great!

100-Calorie Muscle Milk Light - Finally... a Muscle Milk product that's not just

for gym rats! Rich and satisfying, here's a great way to spend 100 calories

and make it last! The 8.25-oz. container has 3g fat, 3 - 5g carbs, 1 - 2g fiber,

and 15g protein (POINTS® value 2*), and it comes in Chocolate, Chocolate

Mint, Strawberries 'N Crème, Mocha Latte, and Vanilla Crème. BTW, it's also

sugar-free and lactose-free. YAY!

Copy THAT!

When something is good and successful, people rip it off. Like "Eat This, Not

That" is derivative of our very own "Bite It/Fight It" (yes, we noticed), most

great things end up getting copied. We're bringing you the 411 on two

copycats today...

Toaster Pastry Double Take - Pop-Tarts are loved by all humans, so last year

our pals at Fiber One decided to make their own version packed with fiber.

Brilliant! The folks at Kellogg's (Pop-Tart's parent co.) must've thought so

too, 'cuz they just released a line of their toaster pastries that (just like F1's)

contain 20% of your daily fiber (in Strawberry, Chocolate Fudge, and Brown

Sugar Cinnamon). So Fiber One ripped off Pop-Tarts, and then Pop-Tarts

ripped off Fiber One. Guess they're even now -- and let the breakfast pastry

battle begin! BTW, the nutritional info for the two lines is pretty much

identical. (The Pop-Tarts are a tiny bit higher in fat.)

Raising the Bar - Fiber One Chewy Bars are so HOT, stores can't order them

fast enough. They're decadent, gooey, fiber-packed, and AMAZINGLY

delicious. That's why we weren't surprised to receive a complete copycat

version of these bars from Kellogg's. Yup, F1 and Kellogg's are at it again.

The Kellogg's line is called FiberPlus Antioxidants Chewy Bars. In Dark

Chocolate Almond and Chocolate Chip, each bar has 120 - 130 calories, 4 -

5g fat, 24 - 26g carbs, 9g fiber, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 2*). The

new bars are pretty good. Let's see how this food fight shakes out...

Stuff You Didn't Know You Needed...

Slush-It NOW! - OK, can this thing be for real? It's some sort of magical

apparatus that helps turn beverages into "slush" right in your freezer -- and

without adding anything at all to the drinks themselves. We're waiting for

ours to arrive so we can test it out, and we're planning on throwing some low-

calorie lemonade in there. The company does say that certain beverages

(like bottled juice drinks and flavored waters) work better than others (like

diet soda cans). More on this after we take it for a spin...

Chocolate-Coat Your iPhone - What a super-adorable (and delicious-looking!)

cell phone cover! If you have an iPhone, this kooky thing may be perfect for

you. It even comes in a box that looks like a chocolate bar wrapper! THIS IS

SOOO CUTE!!!

Mini Snack-Shaped Vacuums - Now you can tidy up your space with a burger

or bucket of popcorn. These little food-shaped crumb-cleaner-uppers are fun,

functional, and calorie-free!

The Buzz...

Attention, peanut butter eaters! As we mentioned on Friday, a major supplier

of peanut butter issued a nationwide recall of its nut butters (and peanut

paste) after being linked to the recent Salmonella outbreak. As a client of the

supplier, Kellogg's has recalled its Austin and Keebler peanut butter crackers

as well as certain Famous Amos and Keebler cookies. Some Little Debbie

snacks have also been recalled. Health officials are warning people to avoid

eating ALL foods containing peanut butter or peanut paste until they know

more. Spread the word to everyone you know! ***A new study found that

when a certain enzyme was switched off in mice, they were able to overeat

without becoming obese. The mice consumed lots of "high-fat, tasty food,"

but remained lean. Does this mean a simple switcheroo in humans is all

that's needed to end dieting for good? Not quite. It'd take a whole lot more

research to determine if humans would react similarly and if there are risks

involved. But scientists (and hungry people) are hopeful! ***Curious as to

how you'd look 20 pounds thinner? Click here NOW and you'll go to a site

that will show you! ***Are you a fan of the tasty meals from Cedarlane? If

so, you're gonna love this! Many of the company's delicious (yet hard-to-

find) items are for sale at its online store -- and the shipping is FREE! YEE-

HAAA! That's all we've got. HG out!
