ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Hungry Girl,

I was wondering if you could help me with a meal makeover. It is actually
supposed to be an appetizer, but my husband and I eat it as a meal on the
night our favorite TV shows are on. We have this once a week! It's basically
1 small jar of queso dip and 1 lb. of hamburger meat with Tostitos Scoops to
dip. I've been using ground turkey meat instead of ground beef, so the main
problems now are the cheese and the Scoops. We need some alternatives
for our favorite dinner... please help! Thanks in advance for any
suggestions. :)

HG-ify My Meal

Dear HG-ify My Meal,

YUM! There are a few easy ways to lighten up your Mexican fiesta of a
dinner. You're on the right track with turkey, but pay attention to the type.
Regular ground turkey can actually have more fat and calories than lean
beef! But extra-lean ground turkey can be dry and dull. So try turkey that's
lean (not extra-lean) -- about 93% fat-free. Butterball and Jennie-O both
make good ones. Frozen ground-beef-style soy crumbles -- like the kinds by
Boca and Morningstar Farms -- also work GREAT in dishes like this and save
even more calories and fat. Next, swap your fatty nacho cheese dip with
HG's Nacho-rific Cheese Sauce. Our sauce is made with a magical blend of
light and fat-free cheeses, and it is SO good. Finally, make the switch from
Scoops to Baked Scoops -- or just use Guiltless Gourmet Tortilla Chips. If
you make your meals with half a bag of those Morningstar Farms crumbles
(you REALLY don't need that entire pound of meat you've been using), a
batch of our sauce, and 2 servings of Baked Scoops, you'll have two dinners
with around 370 calories, 9.5g fat, 34g carbs, 6g fiber, and 36g protein
(POINTS® value 7*) each. With 1/2 lb. lean turkey instead of the crumbles,
you're looking at around 410 calories, 14g fat, 26g carbs, 2g fiber, and 44g
protein (POINTS® value 9*) per meal. Either way you'll shave a TON of fat
from your dinner. BTW, your weekly TV night meal sounds really delicious.
Can I come over and watch American Idol with you guys?

HG,

I was doing really great diet-wise at the start of the year, but I have been
slipping lately. I find myself giving up and promising to be good the following
day, then the following week, etc. But it's been hard to get back on track.
Any tips for me? PLEASE HELP!

Off the Wagon

Dear Off the Wagon,

This happens every year in February to lots of people. It's easy to slip back
into your old ways, but don't beat yourself up over it. The single best piece of
advice I can give you is to get out of that "on a diet/off a diet" mind set.
Don't think of yourself as being on some sort of a strict plan. If you do that
and slip up, you'll be more likely to just toss your "diet" out the window until
you are ready to fully commit again. Instead, take one day at a time, one
MEAL at a time, even one SNACK at a time. That approach will set you up for
success! No more of that "I'll start a diet on Monday" stuff. Come on! Other
little tips? Drink a lot of water. Don't wait until you are STARVING to eat --
that will cause you to eat more. So no meal-skipping! Also, always keep
emergency snacks on hand. Speaking of emergency snacks, don't miss next
Monday's email -- we'll be launching our latest video short, and it's ALL about
emergency snacks! For lots more tips on how to stay on track, check out
our resolutions email from January. Good luck!!!

CHEW ON THIS:
Today, February 11th, is Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day. Spilling milk isn't
worth crying over, but wasting even one drop of Unsweetened Vanilla
Almond Breeze may actually be worth shedding a tear or two.
