Hungry Girl Today: 2.09.09

Spotted on Shelves...

Contessa Green Cuisine Stir-Fry Meals - These frozen bagged meals ROCK.

Why? Because they're packed full of lean protein and veggies. No irritating

starchy carbs. AND the sauce comes on the side (perfect for control freaks

like us). In Shrimp, Chicken, and Beef, a serving of each without sauce (1

1/2 - 2 cups) has 120 - 150 calories, 1.5 - 3g fat, 11 - 14g carbs, 3 - 4g fiber,

and 13 - 17g protein (POINTS® value 2*). If you use ALL the sauce, it'll add

around 60 - 80 calories (and no fat) to each serving -- for a total POINTS®

value of 3 - 4* per serving. Pssst... get a coupon here!

New Flavors! Jell-O Sugar Free Pudding Snacks - They are getting CREATIVE

over there in that Jell-O kitchen. They're crankin' out flavors of SF pudding

like it's going out of style. (Thank goodness sugar-free pudding will NEVER go

out of style.) The latest ones are Boston Cream Pie and Cinnamon Roll, each

with 60 calories, 1g fat, 12g carbs, 0g fiber, and 1g protein (POINTS® value

1*). The Boston Cream Pie is good (but truth be told, it tastes EXACTLY like

their Chocolate Vanilla Swirl). The Cinnamon Roll is FANTASTIC. We can't

wait to have a little fun with it in the kitchen...

Banana Nut Cheerios - Cheerios are HUGELY popular for a reason, people.

They're delicious and loveable and "O" shaped. All good things. And NOW

they come in Banana Nut flavor. People are buzzing about these. A 3/4-cup

serving has 100 calories, 1g fat, 23g carbs, 1g fiber, and 1g protein

(POINTS® value 2*). Yum!

Ones to Watch Out For...

Here are a few little-known products we've sniffed out... You just may

like 'em!

Baconnaise Lite - True the name "Baconnaise Lite" is a bit of an oxymoron,

but go with it. This bacon-flavored mayo spread is INSANELY delicious (and

vegetarian-friendly!). We've used it on wraps, mixed it with tuna, and even

dunked our "Lord of the Onion Rings" in it. Next we're going to take it ice

skating and propose to it. A tbsp. has 30 calories, 3g fat, and 1g carbs

(POINTS® value 1*). Click here now to buy it online. And no, we're not

REALLY going to ask for Baconnaise's hand in marriage...

TRUwhip All Natural Whipped Topping - Love the IDEA of Cool Whip but

prefer a more natural alternative? Try TRUwhip. It comes frozen in a tub like

CW, and it has stats similar to REGULAR Cool Whip (not Cool Whip Free) -- a

2-tbsp. serving has 30 calories, 2g fat, and 3g carbs (POINTS® value 1*) --

but it has NO trans fat, NO hydrogenated oils, and NO GMOs. So, if you care

about that sort of thing, head over to Whole Foods (or select markets in your

area) and pick it up. We've tried it and think it's pretty good. If you've tried

it, click here to visit our Facebook page and tell us what you think!

Flavor Magic Portion Control Sheets - Wow! How futuristic! These magical

little "sheets" not only add flavor to your protein, but they also help you

control your portions. Just plate a sheet and top it with a same-sized piece of

meat, fish, or poultry. It's like a cute little temporary tattoo -- only instead of

imprinting a skull or a mermaid, it gives you FLAVOR. Let it marinate for a

bit, then cook and, voilĂ , your food will be tasty and properly portioned!

BTW, each sheet has only 4 calories. Available in Dijon Honey Mustard,

Riviera Tomato & Basil, Garlic Citrus Teriyaki, and Zesty Cajun-Creole. Click

here to order, and use coupon code FM15 to save 15% on all online orders

before 3/31/09!

Cheapie Chews -- How Will the Recession Affect Our Eating Habits?

When people are trying to save money, they often cut costs by buying more

cheap eats (processed junk food and dollar-menu fast food) and less of the

healthy, more costly stuff (fresh fruit, fresh veggies, and whole grains).

That's why some experts are predicting that obesity rates may increase as

our economy continues to, well, have "issues". In any case, we'll be here

supporting you any way we can. In general, you can save cash and still eat

well by buying frozen fruits, frozen veggies, and canned goods like beans

and soups. But we're also blabbing about some more exciting ways you can

cut costs during these difficult times...

1. Starbucks Value Meals on the Way! - Next month, The 'Bucks will

introduce "breakfast pairings" at reduced prices in the hopes of squashing

misperceptions about the coffee chain being too expensive to indulge in

during these cost-cutting times. So if you can't start your day without

Starbucks, this'll save you some dough. No news on the specifics, but we

hope SB pairs its spinach & feta wrap with a Venti (a.k.a. GINORMOUS) Caffè

Misto for $1.99. Hey, we can dream...

2. Vitalicious Savings - Yes, it's that time again. TIME TO SAVE ON

VITATOPS! If you're like us, you can't imagine a world without vitamin-

infused, fiber-packed, 100-calorie treats. So don't miss our super-exciting

special coming up TOMORROW (that's Tuesday, 2/10, for the confused or

those of you who don't open your emails often enough). Surprises and a

GREAT deal in store. Look in your inbox for all the fun mañana.

3. If you're into completely FREE stuff, click here for a free sample of True

Delights (Quaker's latest and, dare we say, GREATEST bars), and click HERE

for free Diet Dr Pepper, while supplies last. We SO spoil you!

The Buzz...

Are you looking for ways to snack LESS? Get more sleep. And not just

because sleeping more cuts down on your available snacking time. A recent

study found that when people slept 5 1/2 hours a night they ate 220 extra

calories from snacks -- mostly carby ones -- compared to when they slept 8

1/2 hours. TOTALLY interesting. Click for more on that. ***Hey, if you want

your man to smell like a big fat hamburger, you should know that Burger

King's Flame (the cologne that reeks of fast food) is back in stock, and it's

smellier than ever! (Okay, we're not sure about that last part -- we haven't

sniffed it yet.) ***Do you often feel that your bananas are in danger? Clearly

you are not alone. TWO competing products are vying for your bananas'

affections -- the Banana Saver and the Banana Guard. Each of these little

cases will stop at nothing to ensure the safety of your banana. (Pssst, we

think the Banana Guard is cuter.) ***You know we feel Vitaminwater is a

waste of calories, right? Well now the CSPI (our buddies who do their best to

protect us from bad food crimes!) is SUING the Coca-Cola company for

claims on the V-water labels. Are you REALLY getting all those "health

benefits" or just a lot of sugary calories? Hmmmmmm... Okay, that's all

we've got. HG out!
