Hungry Girl Today: 4.6.09

Spotted on Shelves...

Luna Cookie Whole Grain Snacks - These new treats from Luna are chewy
and delicious. In Berry Pomegranate and Chocolate Mint (two delicious
flavors, not one scary one), each dense, soft-baked snack has 130 - 140
calories, 2.5g fat, 26 - 27g carbs, 4g fiber, and 3g protein (POINTS® value
2*). There's also a Peanut Butter Chocolate flavor, but that has slightly
higher stats (150 calories, 6g fat, and a POINTS® value of 3*). BTW, these
cookies are square, not round like most cookies. Très chic!

Sunkist Light Smoothies - In two varieties, Blackberry Blueberry and
Pomegranate Cherry, these fat-free fruity sippers aren't bad! An 8-oz.
serving has 80 calories, 19 - 20g carbs, 0 - 2g fiber, and <1 - 1g protein
(POINTS® value 1 - 2*), and each bottle has about two servings. With no
added sugar, no preservatives, and 40% fewer calories than regular
smoothies, these things are a nice on-the-go swap for over-caloried fruity
beverages. BTW, for a super-sized creamy concoction, try blending half a
bottle with some Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze and frozen fruit, plus
tons of crushed ice. Mmmm...

Honey Kix - Emails have been pouring in about this new spin on the classic
corn-puff kid cereal. You get 1 1/4 cups for 120 calories, 1g fat, 28g carbs,
3g fiber, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 2*). IMPRESSIVE. Even with 3/4
cup of skim milk, light soymilk, or Almond Breeze, your b-fast bowl will clock
in with less than 200 calories. Yee-haa!

Tasty Twins = Money Savers!

Put on your detective cap and grab a magnifying glass. Cash-saving clones
are EVERYWHERE, people. Food companies are manufacturing and packaging
HG faves under other names. "Private labeling" (as it's known in the
industry) is extremely popular. For example, we're pretty sure Trader
Joe's "Light in Sodium" Organic Tomato Bisque is actually our BFF Amy's
Organic Light in Sodium Chunky Tomato Bisque. Same taste. Same
ingredients. Almost identical stats. (We know it's YOU!) And TJ's "Popped
Potato Chips" are none other than our beloved Popchips. In addition to these
delicious doubles, you can also find a SLEW of economy-friendly copycats --
like on-the-go drink mix packets, high-fiber chewy bars, 100-calorie packs,
and more -- on the shelves of Target, Walmart, Safeway, etc., under private
labels like Market Pantry and Eating Right. Just open your eyes and read
labels VEERRRYYY carefully -- compare nutritional info and specific
ingredients (and pay attention to the order ingredients are listed in). Who's
looking out for you? WE ARE!!!!

The Buzz...

More nut news. Just when we were feeling okay about the peanut butter
scare, a pistachio problem arises. Last week, about 1 million pounds of
processed pistachios were recalled. And now dozens of specific products
have been recalled as well. For now, our good friend (and current nut crush)
Stach of Everybody's Nuts! has NOT been affected. For the latest pistachio
recall news, click here now. ***Holy Jetsons! This brand-new futuristic
