WEEKLY WEIGH-IN
Happy Hamburger Week, HGers! Sure we love veggie burgers and soy
patties, but sometimes we want the real thing... guilt-free, of course. Check
out these two all-new recipes plus our top picks for every burger-eating
occasion. Prepare to get your burger on, people...
Outside-In Cheeseburger Patty
PER SERVING (1 patty): 179 calories, 6.5g fat, 502mg sodium, 1.5g carbs,
0g fiber, 1g sugars, 26.5g protein -- POINTS® value 4*
Is it offensive that we stuffed something labeled "Laughing Cow" inside a ball
of beef? Perhaps... but it's DELICIOUS!
Ingredients:
4 oz. raw extra-lean ground beef
1 wedge The Laughing Cow Light Original Swiss cheese, room temperature
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. onion powder
1/8 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
dash salt, or more to taste
dash black pepper, or more to taste
Directions:
In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients except the cheese. Add as much
salt and pepper as you like. Knead mixture by hand until integrated. Form
into a ball and, using your thumb, make a large, hollow indentation in the ball
(past the center but not all the way through). Fill the hole with cheese and
squeeze the meat to seal, making sure no cheese is exposed. Flatten slightly
into a thick patty.
Bring a pan misted with nonstick spray to medium-high heat on the stove.
(Use a grill pan if you've got one.) Place patty in the pan, cover, and cook for
4 - 7 minutes per side, depending on how well done you like your burger.
Heads Up: Don't press on the patty with your spatula (your burger might
ooze cheese!).
Serve however you like your burger... We like ours with ketchup and pickles
between giant leaves of lettuce!

Tremendous Top-Shelf Turkey Burger
PER SERVING (1 patty): 184 calories, 6.5g fat, 502mg sodium, 12g carbs, 2g
fiber, 4g sugars, 20.5g protein -- POINTS® value 4*
Yeah, yeah, we know the best burgers aren't actually stored on a shelf above
all the lesser meat patties. But you get the point. This burger is LARGE and
IN CHARGE...
Ingredients:
3 oz. raw lean ground turkey
1/4 cup finely chopped mushrooms
One-half slice light white bread (40 - 45 calories per slice with at least 2g
fiber)
3 tbsp. finely chopped onion
1 tbsp. fat-free liquid egg substitute (like Egg Beaters Original)
1/2 tbsp. finely chopped parsley
1/2 tbsp. Dijonnaise
1/2 tbsp. ketchup
1/4 tsp. crushed garlic
dash salt
Directions:
Place the half-slice of bread in a blender or food processor, and pulse until
you have soft, fluffy breadcrumbs.
In a medium bowl, combine breadcrumbs with all other ingredients and
knead by hand until integrated. Form into a nice, big patty about 3/4 of an
inch thick.
Bring a pan misted with nonstick spray to medium heat on the stove. (Use a
grill pan if you've got it.) Place patty in the pan, cover, and cook for 5 - 7
minutes. Very carefully flip the patty, re-cover the pan, and cook for another
5 - 7 minutes, until patty is cooked through. Serve on a plate, on a bun, over
lettuce... whatever!

Burger-Bonanza Round-Up!!!
Oooh! Check out HG's fave burger finds, from the drive-thru to the frozen
foods section of the supermarket...
Freezer-Aisle Find! Lean Pockets Cheeseburger - This cheeseburger-inspired
Pocket is super-convenient and super-delicious. It even earned top honors in
a recent HG frozen food review. With 290 calories and 8g fat (POINTS®
value 6*), it's a totally reasonable way to indulge in a cheesy burger item.
Restaurant Pick! Chili's Guiltless Black Bean Burger - This thing is ginormous
and tastes FANTASTIC. It's super-filling, thanks to 18g fiber and 37g protein.
While 609 calories and 11g fat (POINTS® value 12*) isn't super-low, it's WAY
better than the fatty beef-burger-bombs you'll find at most sit-down eateries.
HG Tip! Save a LOAD of calories (and fat) by skipping the ranch spread and
requesting an unbuttered bun (or no bun at all!).
HG Recipe Alert! The Cheeseburger Chomp - This cheddary, burger-packed
wrap is one of our absolute favorite ways to obliterate a cheeseburger
craving. It's stuffed with veggie-friendly burger bites topped with gooey
cheese and all your favorite fixins. For just 193 calories and 3.5g fat
(POINTS® value 3*), you might wanna cancel your dinner plans and make
this tonight.
Fast-Food Find! Wendy's Jr. Hamburger - If you really want a burger at a fast-
food joint, this little 230-calorie, 8g-of-fat one (POINTS® value 5*) isn't a
bad option at all. For a bigger burger fix, go for Wendy's Double Stack
without cheese. You'll get TWO junior-sized burger patties on ONE small bun
for 320 calories and 14g fat (POINTS® value 7*). We recommend pairing
either one with a side salad. (Pssst... Click here for a list of the calorie counts
on a bazillion burgers served at popular chains!)
Patty Pick! Boca Original Meatless Burger (Vegan) - Most of you know this is
our freezer-aisle soy patty of choice, but ever wonder why? Okay, we'll tell
you. First of all, it tastes truly meaty -- this isn't one of those veggie 'n grain
patties (although we like those too). Secondly, you really can't beat the
stats: only 70 calories and a half-gram of fat, plus an impressive 4g fiber and
13g protein (POINTS® value 1*). It's also easy to find at most markets and
works perfectly in all our burger-swap recipes, like the Island Insanity
Burger, Chili-rific Cheeseburger, Mega MonsterBurger, Burger on the
Double!, and (of course!) Awesome Whopper Stopper. Mmmm!!!
