ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Hi, HG!

I have your book Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 and it has changed my life!

Your recipes for quesadillas and oatmeal are delicious and fun -- I love

having them as snacks. Since getting the book, I have become obsessed

with 200-calorie snacks and have made practically every recipe in it.

Got any new ideas for me?

200-Calorie Snacker

Dear 200-Calorie Snacker,

First of all, thank you! I'm really glad you have 200 Under 200 and like it so

much. I love the idea of 200-calorie snacks and mini-meals -- they're so

satisfying and can keep you from getting into a boring snack rut. As for NEW

200-calorie snacks, I do happen to have a few that I've been eating a lot

lately... and I will spill the beans about 'em now.

1. This first one makes a great light breakfast or mid-morning snack. (But

really, it's good any time of day!) I take a Fuji apple, cut it into cubes, and

put it in a bowl. Then I add half a cup of fat-free cottage cheese, sprinkle on

some cinnamon and Splenda, and mix it all up. It is SOOO GOOD, and it has

around 200 calories.

2. The next idea? Take two Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Beef Franks and

nuke 'em. (That's my hot dog of choice, but any kind with around 45 calories

will do.) Cut a slightly warmed 80-calorie tortilla (like La Tortilla Factory

Smart &

Delicious Low Carb High Fiber) in half, roll each dog in a tortilla half, and

dip 'em in Vivi's Carnival Mustard (plain mustard or even salsa works, too).

Ridiculously satisfying 200 calories!

3. Finally -- this is a brand-new one for me --, I eat a frozen Triple Chocolate

Chunk VitaTop with a tablespoon of chunky peanut butter on it. SOOOOO

AMAZING.

Enjoy! Happy 200-calorie snacking!

Dear Hungry Girl,

What is the deal with the Bodybugg? I see you Tweeting about it all the time.

Can you tell us more about it?

Bugging Out

Dear Bugging Out,

The Bodybugg is an AWESOME thing. It's a cool little contraption you wear on

your upper arm that tracks exactly how many calories you're burning. It also

tracks your steps and some other fun stuff. The armband communicates with

a watch that displays all the info and is updated constantly. There's also an

online program that tracks your calorie burn (you upload it from the

armband) and your calorie intake (if you enter the foods you eat!), and it

helps you figure out a plan of attack for whatever your weight management

goals are. If you're trying to lose weight, it helps determine how many

calories you should take in each day -- with a recommended breakdown of

protein, carbs, fat, etc., and even sample food plans. It's really pretty

amazing! Right now my Bodybugg's helping me take off five pounds that I

typically lose and gain a few times throughout the year. My goal is to

gradually lose that weight over a period of a couple of months, and hopefully

keep it off forever. To do that, I've been aiming for a "calorie deficit" (taking

in fewer calories than I burn) of about 300 a day. So if my Bodybugg tells

me I'm burning 1,700 calories one day, I'll try to take in 1,400 calories.

(Remember, those numbers change drastically from person to person!) The

bottom line is the Bodybugg will tell you -- with more than 90% accuracy --

exactly how many calories your body burns. And THAT is an empowering

number that will help you make informed decisions about the foods you

choose to eat. It's really that simple. It's also fun to see how many calories

you burn doing simple daily activities like blow-drying your hair (I burn

around 35 extra calories doing that!). Does anyone else out there have a

Bodybugg? Click HERE to blab all about it with other HGers on our Facebook

page! And if you don't have a Bugg but are curious, see what everyone else

is saying about it.
