***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Hungry Girl Today: 9.21.09

Spotted on Shelves...

Mousse Temptations by Jell-O - This is, HANDS DOWN, the most creative and
delicious guilt-free stuff to come out of the Jell-O kitchen in, well, possibly
FOREVER. It's available in three flavors -- Chocolate Indulgence, Dark
Chocolate Decadence, and Caramel Creme -- and has 60 calories, 2.5 - 3g
fat, 9 - 10g carbs, 0 - 1g fiber, and 1 - 2g protein (POINTS® value 1*) per
snack cup. You MUST try all the flavors! They're popping up on select shelves
now, and we're told they'll be EVERYWHERE by October. Yay, mousse!

Campbell's Light Condensed Soups - We broke the news about these last
month, and now they're OUT! People who like their soup low in price AND
calories will be super-psyched about this line. There are currently five
varieties -- Chicken Gumbo, Chicken Mushroom Barley, Chicken with White
& Wild Rice, Italian-Style Wedding, and Vegetable Orzo. Pretty fancy for a
just-add-water snack or meal-starter, especially one with 70 - 80 calories, 1 -
2g fat, 12 - 14g carbs, 1 - 3g fiber, and 2 - 4g protein (POINTS® value 1*)
per half-cup. PLUS, it costs less than a buck per serving. Nice!

Old El Paso Stand 'n Stuff Taco Shells - The name says it all. These flat-
bottomed shells stand on their own (we're so proud!) and have plenty of
room for stuffin'. Adios, taco shells that tip over and empty their contents
before you can eat them! A 2-shell serving has only 130 calories, 6g fat, 16g
carbs, 1g fiber, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 3*). Kinda makes us wanna
sing, Flat-bottomed shells, you make the rockin' world go 'round!

Bitty Bites...

Laser-Tattooed Fruit!
We're impressed, intrigued, and a little weirded out by this story. Word on
the web has it that, pretty soon, the produce you pick up at your local
market might be imprinted with info about its point of origin. Those little fruit
stickers you sometimes forget to remove could become a thing of the past.
Researchers say the new laser-etching technology is not harmful and won't
affect the deliciousness of your fruits and veggies. "Tattoo" testing is
currently underway on citrus fruits, avocados, garlic, and tomatoes. Next
thing you know, our Fuji apples will be riding around on tiny motorcycles and
getting their stems pierced...

Win Dunkin' Donuts Coffee for a YEAR!!!
As huge fans of DD's coffee (it truly is the BEST kind to throw into your
coffeemaker!), we're beyond excited about this new sweepstakes. All you
have to do is enroll in the online DD Perks program (for free!), and you'll
automatically have a chance to win EVERY WEEK the contest is running --
through March of next year! Each weekly winner will get two pounds of
Dunkin' Donuts Original Blend Coffee every month for a year. Three cheers
for the Double D!

Morning Meals = MUST-HAVES!
Eat. Your. Breakfast. We've all been told that eating in the AM can lead to
lower calorie-consumption throughout the day, but now researchers from
Imperial College London think they know WHY. They say not eating in the
morning can trick the brain into thinking it wants those high-calorie foods we
try desperately NOT to crave. So if you're trying to drop a few pounds,
skipping breakfast is NOT the way to do it and could actually cause you to
GAIN weight. Eeek! We're going to make a low-cal scramble right now...

The Buzz...

Have you heard of Chia Goodness? It's a breakfast cereal made with chia
seeds (yes, the same ones used to grow Chia Pets!). Apparently the stuff is
healthy, and it doesn't taste bad either. The cereal has 130 - 140 calories
and 6 - 8g fat for two tablespoons, though, which is sorta hefty. (It can be
mixed with liquid a la oatmeal or eaten granola-style.) But people insist it's
super-filling! Pssst... If you do want to try adding chia to your diet, go for the
cereal as opposed to chomping into what's growing out of your sheep-shaped
ceramic planter. (Seriously, Chia Pets are not FDA-approved for eating!)
***Snacking in the middle of the night could make you gain weight, and not
just because of extra calorie intake. Recent studies found that mice that
nibbled during their "sleep time" were more likely to pack on pounds than
those that ate exactly the same but during "awake time." Messing with
natural body rhythms could be to blame. But is it true for people as well? No
word on that yet. ***Calorie-free cupcake alert! Order something flower-ific
from the Cupcakes for a Cause collection by 1-800-FLOWERS, and 10% of
the net proceeds will go to CancerCare for Kids. You can also decorate and
send a virtual cupcake for free -- the flower folks will donate $1 for each of
those sent, up to $5,000. Do it! It's happening this month only. That's all
we've got. HG out!
