***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Hungry Girl Today: 11.23.09

Spotted on Shelves...

Twixels - At 35 calories a pop, we're kind of excited about these little candy-
coated cookie sticks... and also a little afraid of them. (So many! Big opened
package!) They come in French Vanilla, Creamy Caramel, and Triple
Chocolate, and each 4-bar serving has 140 calories, 8g fat, 16 - 17g carbs,
1g fiber, and 1g protein (POINTS® value 3*). Look for these at Target and
Walmart. Fingers crossed for portion-controlled packs...

Sunsweet 60 Calorie Packs - If it's been years since you've tried prunes (or
you NEVER have), these are the ones to eat. In addition to being good for
you -- packed with FIBER, low in calories, and loaded with vitamins &
antioxidants -- these dried plums are really delicious and come in little 60-
calorie servings. Each fat-free snack pack (about 3 prunes) has 16g carbs,
2g fiber, and 1g protein (POINTS® value 1*). There's also a Cherry Essence
flavor -- can't wait to try that!

Honey Nut Chex - Happy days for people who avoid gluten. This crunchy,
lightly honey-sweetened stuff is now GLUTEN-FREE! A 3/4-cup serving
(without milk) has 120 calories, 0.5g fat, 28g carbs, 1g fiber, and 2g protein
(POINTS® value 2*). We're thrilled that more and more yummy gluten-less
items are popping up on shelves... Thanks, Chex!

Holiday Beverages Hit Coffee Shops!

Tempted by the seasonal drinks your local baristas are pushing? Here's a bit
of knowledge before you buy...

Starbucks - BAD NEWS for eggnog lovers! It's the season of nog lattes (you
either love 'em or hate 'em; there's no in between), but even if you order
your Grande with nonfat milk, that cup's still slugging EGGNOG and will have
450 calories and 18g fat! But it's not ALL bad: A Grande Caramel Brulee
Frappuccino Light Blended Coffee has just 180 calories and 1g fat (POINTS®
value 3*).

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - GOOD NEWS for tea drinkers! A 12-oz. Winter
Dream or Orange Spice Tea Latte with no-sugar-added vanilla powder has
only 100 calories. SOOOOOO good. Woohoo!

Seattle's Best Coffee - NOT-BAD NEWS for latte and mocha fans. If ordered
with nonfat milk and no whip, a small Gingerbread Latte has 170 calories and
1g fat (POINTS® value 3*), a small Peppermint Mocha Trio has 210 calories
and 1g fat (POINTS® value 4*), and a small Sugar & Spice Latte has 220
cals and 5g fat (POINTS® value 5*). Not great, but as we said, not bad.

And in case you didn't know, Seattle's Best is a subsidiary of Starbucks,
which means you'll want to avoid the Eggnog Lattes (and consider the
nonfat/no whip Gingerbread Lattes) at BOTH places.

Bitty Bites!

Let's NOT Go to the Lobby...
More good news/bad news. The good news is that AMC movie theatres in
California (home of the HG HQ) have started posting calorie counts for their
snacks and drinks right on the menu boards! The bad news? The numbers
are kind of frightening. Even a SMALL popcorn WITHOUT added butter has
434 calories. A simple hot dog? 629 calories. A box of candy? Anywhere
between 340 and 1,140 calories. ACK! And heaven forbid you should order
nachos and a large regular soda -- that combo adds up to nearly 2,000
calories! And you thought Paranormal Activity was scary...

What's Nu, Sodium-Counters?
For those people who want something in between the strict no-salt lifestyle
and the world of high-sodium table salt and seasonings, there's NutraSalt
Low Sodium Sea Salt. To quote the company, it's an "all-natural, rich in
potassium, healthier Sea Salt delivering the great salt taste without the
excess sodium." Not too shabby. We think it's a GREAT alternative to regular
salt and seasonings, with 66% less sodium. Plus, it comes in SO many
different flavors. Choose from blends like Texas BBQ, Lemon Dill, Spicy
Cajun, Bold Chipotle, Asian Fusion, and SO many more. You can order the
salts individually or in special variety packs: Mediterranean Taste, Hometown
Flavors, and Exotic Zest. Check 'em out! (P.S. We really like the Texas BBQ.)

The Buzz...

RECALL ALERT! Snacks on Racks is recalling 73 varieties of its Gourmet
Snack Packs, due to potentially undeclared allergens such as milk, soy, nuts,
and wheat. These snacks are sold at hospitals, colleges, and corporate
cafeterias, and they come in clear plastic containers with blue Snacks on
Racks labels. Click here for the full 411. ***Pumpkin update, and it's not
pretty. According to our pals at Libby's, heavy rains are to blame for poor-
quality pumpkins, so they've decided to stop pumpkin production and
packing for the rest of the year. Until next fall's harvest, their canned
pumpkin will be VERY hard to find. Waaaaah! We recommend stocking up
STAT. ***Tons of fun news for you from California Pizza Kitchen! First of all,
there's a slew of new menu items, including a honey-wheat 'n whole-grains
pizza crust option and two soups with 106 - 140 calories a cup (Asparagus
and Tuscan White Bean Minestrone). Secondly, the pizza co. has pulled
calorie counts from its CA menus (boo!) but is now offering a nutritional
brochure with more than just calories (yay!)... AND IT'S ONLINE, TOO!
Thanks, CPK! Now if you could only find a way to lighten up those pizzas...
***Get excited, chocoholics! Pinkberry will soon roll out chocolate-flavored
frozen yogurt. Will it be tart like classic Pinkberry or sweet like regular fro
yo? Only time will tell. (FYI: If you visit the PB website, be prepared for a
yogurt-themed pop song to blast from your speakers.) That's all we've got.
HG out!
