CHEW THE RIGHT THING

BITE IT!

HG's Gimme S'mores Hot Cocoa

I Should Cocoa...

We discovered the secret ingredient to the world's best hot cocoa: fire. Don't

fear the flame, people! Kitchen torches can be relatively cheap, easy to find

(at places like Bed Bath & Beyond or online), and pretty simple to use. Get

ready to burn some marshmallows!

Ingredients:

One 25-calorie packet hot cocoa mix (like Swiss Miss Diet or Nestle Fat Free)

2 tsp. fat-free non-dairy powdered creamer (like the kind by Coffee-mate)

2 tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tsp. mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

20 mini marshmallows (about 1/4 cup)

2 low-fat honey graham crackers (half a sheet), crushed

Directions:

Place cocoa mix, powdered creamer, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips in a

large mug. Add 1 cup very hot water, and stir until ingredients are fully

dissolved, melted, and combined. Top with marshmallows.

Using a kitchen torch, toast the marshmallow layer for 5 - 10 seconds, until

slightly melted and cooked to your liking. (Some like their 'mallows golden,

some like 'em blackened!) Allow to cool slightly, and then top with crushed

graham crackers.

Now enjoy!

FIGHT IT!

S'mores Hot Chocolate, a.k.a. Liquid S'mores

Cocoa Oh No!

Regardless of which winter holidays you celebrate, this is DEFINITELY the

season for hot cocoa. We know it's a LOT of fun to make yourself a decadent

cup of the stuff at home -- perhaps with milk, melted chocolate, and a pile of

marshmallows -- and sip that hot beverage while snuggled under a cozy

blanket. But if we're gonna sit around and veg, we really don't want to worry

about all the calories we're slurping down. And the infamous recipe

for "Liquid S'mores" -- which we've seen floating around on the Internet,

popping up on our TV screens, and making guest appearances in our

dreams -- has some INSANE stats. It calls for whole milk, bittersweet

chocolate, and about 400 calories' worth of heavy cream... for one serving of

cocoa. YIKES! While this 970-calorie cup of cocoa is a little out of the

ordinary, even the average homemade cocoa will cost you about 300

calories and at least half a dozen fat grams. We're grateful for the

inspiration, but our version is completely decadent (with REAL chocolate

melted in and TOASTED marshmallows on top) yet completely guilt-free.

There is no font in the world big enough to adequately describe the

deliciousness of our mug of cocoa-y goodness. And there's also something

weirdly enjoyable about torching a pile of marshmallows. Make some NOW!
