Hungry Girl Today: 3.5.10

National Cereal Day is this Sunday, and we're SO ready to celebrate. Check

out how we do cereal at the HG HQ!

Ginormous Cereal Bowl-anza

PER SERVING (entire recipe, 1 bowl): 286 calories, 3g fat, 253mg sodium,

60g carbs, 10g fiber, 12g sugars, 12g protein -- POINTS® value 5*

This is our own special blend of cereals, full of fruit and awesomeness. Until

today, it was exclusive to our first book. But now it's HERE... Woohoo!

Ingredients:

1 cup puffed wheat cereal

1 cup puffed rice cereal

1/2 cup puffed corn cereal (like Kix)

1/4 cup FiberOne Original bran cereal

1/4 cup blueberries

1 cup light vanilla soymilk

Directions:

Place cereals and blueberries in a bowl, and cover with soymilk. Tada!

MAKES 1 SERVING

HG Alternatives! If you like, use Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze (with or

without a packet of no-cal sweetener) in place of soymilk. Then your cereal

bowl will contain about 256 calories and 4g fat (POINTS® value 5*). And feel

free to swap the blueberries for an equal amount of your fresh fruit of

choice.

Cereals We Love

You know, ones we love other than the original Fiber One. We talk about that

stuff a LOT, but we love these, too!

Kashi Honey Sunshine

PER SERVING (3/4 cup): 100 calories, 1.5g fat, 135mg sodium, 25g carbs, 6g

fiber, 6g sugars, 2g protein -- POINTS® value 1*

These puffy squares of goodness are lightly glazed with honey and PACKED

with grains and fiber. They taste a LOT like Cap'n Crunch. We love Kashi's 7-

grain style, so also check out Vive (Toasted Graham & Vanilla), Heart to

Heart Warm Cinnamon Oat (which is actually cold), and the brand's hot

cereals. We even enjoy the kid-friendly Mighty Bites now and then.

Fiber One Caramel Delight

PER SERVING (1 cup): 180 calories, 3g fat, 260mg sodium, 41g carbs, 9g

fiber, 10g sugars, 3g protein -- POINTS® value 3*

OK, we said we wouldn't be talking about ORIGINAL Fiber One, but we've

GOT to give props to this delicious morning treat. If you like Cinnamon Toast

Crunch, you'll probably love this -- it's similar-tasting but better for you. SO

GOOD! BTW, if spending 180 calories on a cup of cereal is high for you, a

half-cup at 90 makes a nice little snack or yogurt topping. We also like

mixing it with lower-cal cereals in our b-fast bowl. Mmmmmm!

Chocolate Cheerios

PER SERVING (3/4 cup): 100 calories, 1g fat, 170mg sodium, 23g carbs, 1g

fiber, 9g sugars, and 1g protein -- POINTS® value 2*

Meet our brand-new cereal obsession. This stuff is seriously DELICIOUS. It's

the perfect blend of sweet and wholesome. It's a merger of fun and good-for-

you. A meeting of cocoa goodness and cute little Os. We could go on all day,

but you should probably just go get a box for yourself... because we are NOT

sharing ours. Pffffffbbbbbbt! (Yep, we just gave you a virtual raspberry.)

Amy's Multi-Grain Hot Cereal Bowl

PER SERVING (1 bowl): 190 calories, 1.5g fat, 300mg sodium, 40g carbs, 5g

fiber, 12g sugars, 4g protein -- POINTS® value 3*

For those who like it hot, but don't like slaving over a hot stove and aren't

into the instant packets, THIS is your cereal. FYI, the multiple grains

contained are wheat, barley, corn, rye, brown rice, flax seeds, millet, triticale

(a wheat-rye hybrid -- we only know 'cuz we Googled it), and steel-cut oats.

Power breakfast!

QUICK TIPS: Two Ways to Pump Up Your Cereal

Just add fiber! Mix a quarter-cup of Fiber Fiber One Original into your favorite

cereal and for an extra 30 calories, you'll get a bonus 7 grams of fiber

(POINTS® value 0*). PLUS, you'll probably stay full longer...

Puff that stuff! It can be a tad bland on its own, but try spiking your favorite

cereal with some puffed wheat, puffed corn, puffed rice, etc., to make a

serving go further. There are only about 60 calories and no fat in a full cup of

the plain 'n puffy cereal, plus 0 - 2g fiber (POINTS® value 1*). For 70 cals

per cup, Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Puffs (original) are great, too. We like our

bowls of cereal BIG.

Cereal-icious Recipe Round-Up!

Bet you never knew all the stuff cereal can do...

Complete & Utter Oatmeal INSANITY! - It's hot cereal, but with Fiber One

mixed in. THAT's the insane part...

PB & J Super-Shake and Chocolate Chip Cookie Crisp Puddin' Shake - Two

shakes, two cereals, two YUMS up!

Krispymallow Treats, Pumpkin Crunchers, and Ooey Gooey Chocolate

Cherry Muffins - Mallows, and Crunchers, and Muffins, OH YEAH!

Cravin' Cap'n Crunch Shake - Sure, Carl's Jr. had the idea first, but we've

made it better... and, um, WAY lower in calories!

Strawberry Cloud Pie - We even made PIE out of cereal! CRAZY, and a great

way to bump up the fiber in a graham-cracker-style crust...

Planet Hungrywood Sweet & Cap'n Crunchy Chicken - The Planet Hollywood

dish that inspired this is probably a little jealous.
