***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Hungry Girl Today: 3.22.10

Spotted on Shelves...

Hormel Real Crumbled Bacon, Peppered - We're BIG fans of the precooked
real crumbled bacon found in the salad dressing aisle. Why? It's delicious and
convenient, and it has 50 percent less fat than the standard pan-fried kind.
And it just got even BETTER with this black-pepper-coated version! Like the
original, a tablespoon of savory goodness has 25 calories, 1.5g fat, 190mg
sodium, and 3g protein (POINTS® value 1*). P.S. There's a maple-flavored
variety, too!

Smucker's Low Sugar Preserves - Yes, we're aware this stuff has been
around for a while. We just want to make sure you know that it's a)
DELICIOUS, and b) a terrific, lower-calorie alternative to full-sugar jellies for
people who aren't nuts about the sugar-free kind. In Concord Grape, Orange
Marmalade, Red Raspberry, Strawberry, and Apricot, each tablespoon has 25
fat-free calories, 6g carbs, and 5g sugars (POINTS® value 1*). AWESOME!

Snikiddy All Natural Baked Snacks - Laugh at us all you want for eating
goodies aimed at kiddies -- we can take it. If it means finding treats like
THESE, it's worth it. Mac n' Cheese Puffs? Ketchup-flavored Baked Fries?
Pizza Puffs?! Who's gonna turn their nose up at these wholesome snacks? A
1-oz. serving has 110 - 130 calories, 4 - 4.5g fat, 180 - 190mg sodium, 17 -
21g carbs, 1g fiber, 0 - 2g sugars, and 2 - 3g protein (POINTS® value 2 -
3*). Mmmmm! Find 'em at select stores or order online.

Bitty Bites!

History in the Making: Panera Posts Calorie Counts Nationwide!
Bakery-café chain Panera Bread has had its calorie counts public for a
while... but this is a whole other level. Come April, all company-owned
locations (including those under the Saint Louis Bread Co. moniker) will have
the numbers printed RIGHT ON THE MENU BOARDS. AHHHHH! And even
though Panera can't force franchise owners to comply, the company is
expecting they'll fall in line with the new full-disclosure concept. Hopefully this
becomes a lasting trend -- Yum! Brands (parent company of KFC, Taco Bell,
Pizza Hut, etc.) plans to post calorie counts at corporate-owned locations,
too, by January of next year. WOOHOO!

Vitaminwater10... From Hero to Zero!?
As you may have heard (or seen, if you watch the judges on American Idol
closely), Vitaminwater recently reformulated its low-calorie line, previously
dubbed Vitaminwater10. The good news? It now has zero calories per
serving. Appropriately, it now goes by the name Vitaminwater Zero. The bad
news? It doesn't taste NEARLY as good. And taste is super important (doy!).
V10 was TOTALLY worth those few calories. We want to like Vitaminwater
Zero. So much. But when it comes to stevia-sweetened beverages, we've
found that it's really hit or miss. And to be completely honest, this one's a big
fat MISS. (Bring back Vitaminwater10!) Taste it and let us know what you
think. And if you see any bottles of Vitaminwater10 still floating around in
stores, STOCK UP!

HG at the Natural Foods Expo (AWESOME Up-and-Coming Food Finds)!
We recently chewed and sipped our way through aisles and aisles of brand-
new food items at Expo West. Here's what we found... Our pals at Amy's
spoon-fed us the new Hearty Spanish Rice & Red Bean Soup. A-MAZING.
Very unique with a delicious smoky flavor. Only 140 calories and 2.5g fat
(POINTS® value 2*) per half-can serving. A not-yet-released soup we fell for
is Kettle Cuisine's Tomato with Spiral Rice Noodles. It tastes like a grown-up
version of SpaghettiOs (and we mean that as a HUGE compliment). Possibly
our FAVORITE discovery is this freezer-dwelling product: Naked Nuggets,
a.k.a. The Planet's First Grilled Chicken Nugget! Precooked, all-natural, white-
meat nuggies minus the breading and oil. Woohoo! A 3-oz. serving (about 7
nuggets) has 140 calories and 3g fat (POINTS® value 3*). And finally, a low-
cal energy drink that doesn't make us cringe. Ex Drinks Slim Energy is crazy
tasty and has only 15 calories per can (POINTS® value 0*). It's fruity, tangy,
and packed with vitamins. Congrats, items, we LIKE you... we really LIKE
you!!!

The Buzz...

HG EVENT ALERT! Do you love Hungry Girl, FREE snacks, and FUN prizes?! If
so, you REALLY should come out to meet Lisa (HG herself) and celebrate the
release of the latest and greatest HG cookbook, Hungry Girl 1-2-3: The
Easiest, Most Delicious, Guilt-Free Recipes on the Planet! The book comes out
NEXT TUESDAY (3/30), and there's a slew of fantastic book-signing events
planned. There'll be FREE LAUGHING COW CHEESE, FREE VITATOPS, FREE
POPCHIPS and, in some states, FREE TASTI D-LITE (treats on site and
freebie gift cards)! The first event is in NYC next Wednesday (3/31), followed
by one in White Plains, NY, that Saturday (4/3)! Next up... HG'll be in
California for events in Los Angeles (4/8) and Costa Mesa (4/10). Then it's
on to Phoenix (4/16)! Click here for ALL the info. YAY! And tell us which
event you're most excited about. ***Ooh, free samples! NutraSalt Low
Sodium Sea Salt has a whopping 66% less sodium than regular salt, making
it an awesome (and all-natural) alternative. And our sodium-slashing pals at
NutraSalt are giving HGers the chance to try it for free, while supplies last.
(Expires 4/1/10.) Just click here, humans! ***Always assumed that the
saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" is an old wives' tale? First of
all, we're not exactly crazy about the term "old wives' tale," and secondly,
this one may be TRUE. A University of Illinois study found that soluble fiber --
like the kind found in apples -- helps to strengthen the immune system. YAY,
APPLES! (We love you, Fujis... Mwah! Mwah!) ***Wondering what's on deck
this week in HG Land? Check your inbox daily for all-new slow-cooker recipes,
a rockin' seafood swap, and a sneak peek at the recipes in HG 1-2-3! That's
all we've got. HG out!
