Hungry Girl Today: 4.6.10

CHEW THE RIGHT THING

BITE IT!

Totally Stacked Steak-Style HG Burger

HG Fully Loaded!

We're not gonna pretend we DON'T get tempted by crazy fast-food burgers.

We do. But we channel our burger lust into creating swaps that are equally

delicious. No sandwich needs 7 oz. of beef, people. That's nearly half a

pound! Our Totally Stacked Steak-Style HG Burger has ALL the good stuff --

no oversized fatty patty required. Hooray!

Ingredients:

1/4 cup thinly sliced onion

1 tbsp. fat-free liquid egg substitute (like Egg Beaters Original)

1/4 cup Fiber One bran cereal (original)

1/4 tsp. onion powder, or more to taste

Dash each salt and black pepper, or more to taste

1 Pepperidge Farm Deli Flats roll (or alternative below)

1 Boca Original Vegan Meatless Burger

1 slice fat-free American cheese

1/2 tbsp. A.1. Thick & Hearty Steak Sauce

2 slices tomato

2 small lettuce leaves

Optional: fat-free mayonnaise

Directions:

Place onion "strings" in a bowl and cover with egg substitute. Toss to coat

and set aside.

Using a blender or food processor, grind cereal to a breadcrumb-like

consistency. Transfer crumbs to a plastic container with an airtight lid or a

sealable plastic bag. Add seasonings (use extra, if you like) and mix well.

Remove onion strings from the egg substitute, shake gently to remove

excess liquid, and transfer to the container/bag with the seasoned crumbs.

Cover or seal and shake until onion strings are completely coated in crumbs.

Bring a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray to medium-high heat on the stove.

Evenly disperse crumb-coated onion strings in the skillet. (Discard excess

crumbs -- you'll only use about half.) Flipping occasionally with a spatula,

cook for about 5 minutes, until slightly browned and softened.

Prepare Boca patty according to package instructions (either in the

microwave or in a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray). Split roll in half and, if

you like, lightly toast. Place patty over the bottom half of the roll, and top

with cheese .

Spread A.1. sauce over the cheese. Top with crispy onion strings, tomato,

and lettuce. If you like, spread the inside of the roll's top half with mayo.

Finish off your burger with the top half of the roll. Now CHEW!

FIGHT IT!

Burger King's A.1. Steakhouse XT Burger

Un-Steak My Heart...

It seems like a common ploy among fast-food chains to try and one-up each

other with huge burgers topped with all KINDS of wacky stuff. Burger King

likes to be "macho," so this item is pretty much on par for the place. First of

all, the name. "XT" means it's an extra-thick beef patty, and they

abbreviated it because... Who knows? Maybe it sounds tougher? More

extreme? Deep-fried onions, mayo, steak sauce, cheese, and almost half a

pound of beef piled on a large bun is extreme, alright. That's one pants-

busting sandwich! And since we love all that stuff but NOT the crazy amounts

of calories and fat grams, we HG-ized the thing. By swapping the fatty items

for our secret-weapon ingredients, we created our own AMAZINGLY delicious

burger that's sure to satisfy the pickiest, burger-craving taste buds. Because

at Hungry Girl, we like to have it OUR way.
