ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Hungry Girl,

I love frozen yogurt. But when I get it, I NEED to have chocolate sprinkles on
top. How many calories do chocolate sprinkles have?

Sprinkles Obsessed

Dear Sprinkles Obsessed,

Good news for you! Chocolate sprinkles (a.k.a. jimmies) have about 20
calories and 1g fat (POINTS® value 0*) per teaspoon. That's really not bad
at all, especially since a little goes a loooong way. Plus, they are fun and give
you a nice little chocolate fix! While I'm personally not a huge fan of them as
a topping for frozen treats (I find them waxy on frozen stuff but good for
baked treats), they're definitely a decent fro yo topper in terms of calories.
They have fewer calories than granola, cookie dough, nuts, and crushed
candy bars. So I say, if you love 'em, go for it! As for other guilt-free
toppings? Fresh fruit, mini marshmallows, and crushed cone pieces are all
good. Watch out for the frozen yogurt itself, though! Always ask about the
calories and fat per ounce (they vary by flavor and brand), and then pay
attention to those serving sizes. Even a small 4-oz. cup is typically towering
with soft-serve that could weigh in at 8 oz. or more. So be careful, and don't
be in denial about what's in your cup. That being said, if you're aware and
armed with the right info, enjoy that frozen stuff. It's gooooood!

HG,

Yikes... I can't find canned pumpkin anywhere, and I use it for so many
things -- including a bunch of YOUR recipes that I am obsessed with
(Complete & Utter Oatmeal Insanity, Yum Yum Brownie Muffins, those
AMAZING enchiladas, etc.). What is the deal with the lack of pumpkin in
stores, and what can I do about it? Help!

In Pursuit of Pumpkin

Dear In Pursuit,

I too LOVE canned pumpkin, especially in HG recipes! Sadly, the effects of
last year's pumpkin shortage are finally kicking in. We've been keeping tabs
on the situation and reporting the latest since August. Basically, it all stems
(get it... stems?!) from some pretty awful weather that destroyed most of the
pumpkin crops last season. It took a while for the fallout to hit us, but now
it's nearly impossible for people in certain parts of the country to find
pumpkin puree on shelves. Our fave, the kind by Libby's, is especially sparse
in supply. Worry not, though; canned pumpkin can still be located online.
Click HERE and HERE to see who's selling the stuff. (Order wisely and at your
own risk, of course.) Do NOT mistakenly purchase pumpkin pie filling. It's
totally different -- way higher in calories and loaded with sugar. Good luck
with the hunt, and if you find some, STOCK UP!
