***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Calorie Counts Coming Soon... EVERYWHERE!

You've noticed them popping up on restaurant menus and fast-food menu
boards... Now calorie counts are coming to movie theaters, airplanes, and
convenience stores! Nutritional postings are invading the places we buy food,
and we're SO excited. As part of the health-care overhaul that went through
earlier this year, the FDA recently announced guidelines on disclosing calorie
information that go beyond standard restaurant chains to include many other
food sellers with 20 or more locations. WHOA! And there doesn't even have
to be a human serving you the food -- vending machine distributors qualify
too. What's next? Some schools are starting to display calorie info in their
cafeterias to help kids become more aware of their intake. Knowledge is
power, people!
Now Playing: Calorie Info!

Survey Says? You Weigh In...
Weight Ain't Nothing but a Number... Or Is It?

Words like "overweight" and "obese" get thrown around so often that they
can start to feel vague and subjective. (Overweight compared to what?)
According to a new poll, Americans are not exactly in the know when it
comes to identifying their weight category. Data analysts used body mass
index (BMI) to classify participants based on how they relate to the
population as a whole. Of the 2,000+ people surveyed, 30 percent of those
who qualified as overweight reported that they consider themselves to be at
a normal weight. Plus, 39 percent of morbidly obese respondents and a
whopping 70 percent of obese people stated that they're simply overweight.
Click here to find out your body mass index, and check out the rest of the
site for more info on BMI and living healthfully. But for a more exact
individualized diagnosis, consider visiting a health professional. Do it!

The Buzz...

Who's ready for a super-fun edition of The Buzz? WE ARE! JetBlue just
announced that Vita Coco (the coconut water that Madonna reportedly sips)
will soon be available as a complimentary drink on all JB flights. How hip and
refreshing! ***Speaking of beverages... COOL COFFEE NEWS: Starbucks
VIA Ready Brew, packets of the best instant coffee in the universe, will soon
be available in Cinnamon Spice, Mocha, Vanilla, and Caramel! They will be
sweetened with cane sugar; exact calorie counts to come. (We'll keep you
posted!) ***If you're the type who cuts carbs and aims for a high protein
intake, be careful. A new study suggests that low-carb eating plans
emphasizing consumption of animal-based proteins produce a higher risk of
death, especially by cancer, than those emphasizing consumption of veggie-
based proteins. Click for the deets, and eat lots of good-for-you, protein-
packed, non-meaty things like beans, peas, and nuts! ***Social networking
is fun, but do you know what's MORE fun? Helping people. Tomorrow
(Tuesday, 9/14) is Lose-A-Palooza. For every accepted mention of "Lose for
Good" through Facebook, Twitter, etc., Weight Watchers will donate $1 to
Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger, up to $60,000! Click for the
full 411. Doing good doesn't get easier than this... ***Finally, how do you
make raw veggies as appealing to snack on as potato chips? Package them
like chips! Bolthouse Farms and other carrot growers are planning a pretty
creative marketing campaign intended to give the junk-food industry a run
for its money by, well, copying what works so well for it. Who wants a bag
of "the original orange doodles"?! Mmmmm... That's all we've got. HG out!
