***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in

Hungry Girl Today: 10.01.10
Fall means the return of all things hearty, spiced, cinnamon-y, pumpkin-y,
and/or apple-y. But don't just start grabbing the first seasonal items your
hungry eyes fall upon -- some of these stats are way out of line. Read up!

Dunkin' Donuts Pumpkin Latte
PER SERVING (1 medium latte, 16 oz.): 320 calories, 9g fat, 210mg sodium,
49g carbs, 0g fiber, 48g sugars, 11g protein -- POINTS® value 7*

WHY is the combo of pumpkin and coffee so enticing? Who knows? While this
drink isn't too crazy in the stats department, it does deserve a warning
label... along with the rest of the Dunkin' line of Pumpkin beverages. Why?
Because even the PLAIN Pumpkin Coffee -- without any cream, added sugar,
etc. -- packs 160 calories per medium cup! ACK! If it's flavored coffee you
crave at DD, go for one of the sugar-free types, like Toasted Almond,
Cinnamon, or Caramel. And ignore those crazy baked goods on the Fall
Flavors menu! DANGEROUS.

Boston Market Pastry Top Turkey Pot Pie
PER SERVING (1 pie): 790 calories, 46g fat, 1,220mg sodium, 60g carbs, 4g
fiber, 6g sugars, 34g protein -- POINTS® value 19*

If you're anything like us, you start dreaming of holiday dinners the second
the temperature starts to drop. Turkey... gravy... mashed potatoes...
Mmmmm! If you need comfort food to hold you over until Thanksgiving, DO
NOT go and grab a Turkey Pot Pie from Boston Market. That thing -- which
resides in the Individual Plates section of the menu, BTW -- has WAY too
many calories and fat grams. Plus, it's too easy to get sucked into adding
cornbread (180 calories and 5g fat), creamed spinach (280 calories and 23g
fat), or sweet potato casserole (460 calories and 16g fat) to your meal.
Luckily, you can still get your comfort-food fix with a regular order of
Roasted Turkey Breast with Poultry Gravy and sides of Fresh Steamed
Vegetables and Garlic Dill New Potatoes... only 430 calories and 9g fat
(POINTS® value 9*). SCORE!

Bruegger's Baked Apple Bagel with Pumpkin Cream Cheese
PER SERVING (1 bagel with cream cheese): 500 calories, 13g fat, 695mg
sodium, 88g carbs, 8g fiber, 33g sugars, 14g protein -- POINTS® value 10*

Bruegger's really knows how to crank out the crazy seasonal bagels --
remember last winter's Cinnamon Roll bagel? Well, here's another doozy.
Sure it sounds great with that sweet pumpkin cream cheese... but RESIST!
Check out our bagel guide to making good decisions when it comes to
morning carbohydrates. This combo SO doesn't meet our standards.

Steak 'n Shake Caramel Apple Milkshake
PER SERVING (1 regular shake): 870 calories, 25g fat, 480mg sodium, 148g
carbs, <1g fiber, 131g sugars, 20g protein -- POINTS® value 19*

Milkshakes are scary territory to begin with. Are they drinks? Desserts? And
fruity ones further blur the line, since they can seem smoothie-ish and less
indulgent than full-on dessert shakes. This new-for-fall creamy sipper is a tall
drink of calories... A large one has more than 1,000 calories! Um, sipping this
thing alone is hazardous enough; don't even think about having one with a
burger and fries! How can you avoid this fatty fate? Step 1: Don't go to
Steak 'n Shake. Step 2: If you want a seasonal and decadent blended drink,
make our Caramel Apple Frappe. It's SO good. (Trust us!)

Olive Garden Lasagna Rollata al Forno
PER SERVING (1 dinner order): 1,170 calories, 68g fat, 2,510mg sodium, 90g
carbs, 11g fiber, sugars n.a., protein n.a. -- POINTS® value 28*

Uh oh... another hearty danger-zone dinner option. But surely a meal
consisting of three pinwheels of lasagna is a less treacherous choice than a
giant slab of the stuff, right? WRONG! This has MORE calories and MORE fat
than the Lasagna Classico... Steer clear of it. Instead, check out the new
Seafood Brodetto, with only 480 calories and 16g fat (POINTS® value 10*).
And when it comes to dessert, say NO to the Pumpkin Cheesecake (870
calories and 46g fat); try the fruity varieties of Dolcini instead -- sweet li'l
options with 210 - 230 calories and 11 - 13g fat a pop (POINTS® value 5 -
6*).

Starbucks Toffee Mocha
PER SERVING (1 Grande order with 2% milk and no whipped cream, 16 oz.):
350 calories, 7g fat, 260mg sodium, 58g carbs, 2g fiber, 54g sugars, 17g
protein -- POINTS® value 7*

Every year, The 'Bucks unleashes some amazing-sounding, crazy-decadent
new seasonal beverages on us caffeine fiends. This year, it's a toffee-tinged,
chocolatey drink that we'll need ALL of our strength to avoid. This version
isn't even the worst -- a Venti with whole milk has 490 calories and 14g fat!
Better option? The Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte with 130 fat-free calories
for a 16-oz./Grande order (POINTS® value 3*). Yeah, it's available year-
round, but that doesn't make it any less delicious!

Marie Callender's Sour Cream Apple Pie
PER SERVING (1 slice): 680 calories, 36g fat, 270mg sodium, 84g carbs, 3g
fiber, 60g sugars, 5g protein -- POINTS® value 16*

Oh, that wild Marie and her outrageous pies... What are we going to do with
her? Um, avoid her. This new seasonal slice packs more calories than we
typically spend on a meal, let alone a post-dinner sweet treat! Sure, it
contains fruit and is a better option than the Pumpkin Cheesecake (what
isn't?), but it's still got more calories than a slice of the Kahlua Cream
Cheese or Coconut Cream pie. Yikes. Don't fall for the No Sugar Added
Apple pie either; it's still got almost 500 calories and nearly 30g fat per slice.
Make some tasty HG dessert for yourself -- the Apple iCobbler, Vanilla
Crème Pumpkin Cheesecake, or Super-Simple Apple-Cinnamon Dessert
Crepes (if you have HG 1-2-3!) should do the trick!
