We may be more than a month away from the summer solstice, but Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer, and that's less than two weeks from today! You can't head into summer without some great new hot dog recipes at the ready...

 
 
Hungry Girl's Mexicali-Style Hot Dog
Mexicali-Style Hot Dog

Entire recipe: 244 calories, 8g fat, 841mg sodium, 32.5g carbs, 4g fiber, 5.5g sugars, 12g protein -- PointsPlus® value 6*

Top your hot dog like it's a taco or fajita! Foodie mash-ups are our favorites...

Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 5 minutes or less

Ingredients:
1 oz. (about 2 tbsp.) mashed avocado
1 1/2 tsp. finely chopped red onion
1 1/2 tsp. finely chopped cilantro
Dash each salt, garlic powder, chili powder, and cumin
1 hot dog with about 40 calories and 1g fat or less
1 standard-sized hot dog bun (about 130 calories)
1 tbsp. light sour cream
Optional topping: pico de gallo or fresh salsa

Directions:
In a small bowl, mix avocado, onion, cilantro, and seasonings.

Microwave hot dog on a microwave-safe plate for 30 seconds, or until hot.

Split open bun and, if you like, lightly toast. Place hot dog in the center, and top with avocado mixture and sour cream. Enjoy!

Bacon BBQ Slaw Dog

Entire recipe: 222 calories, 4.5g fat, 917mg sodium, 33g carbs, 2.5g fiber, 7.5g sugars, 12g protein -- PointsPlus® value 6*

This is basically everything you want from a backyard BBQ on a bun. Pile it up!

Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 5 minutes or less 

Ingredients:
2 tsp. BBQ sauce with 45 calories or less per 2-tbsp. serving
1 tsp. light mayonnaise
1/3 cup bagged coleslaw mix
1/2 tbsp. precooked real crumbled bacon (like the kind by Oscar Mayer)
1 hot dog with about 40 calories and 1g fat or less
1 standard-sized hot dog bun (about 130 calories)

Directions:
In a small bowl, mix BBQ sauce with mayo until uniform. Add coleslaw and bacon, and toss to coat.

Microwave hot dog on a microwave-safe plate for 30 seconds, or until hot.

Split open bun and, if you like, lightly toast. Place hot dog in the center, top with coleslaw mixture, and devour!
