In a crazy-questionable decision, Congress recently blocked a proposal by the Department of Agriculture regarding school lunches in the United States. The goal of the proposed changes? To reduce childhood obesity by increasing fruits and vegetables, limiting potatoes, and reducing salt in the lunches being served. However, a bill released this month blocks the spending associated with these changes. One result (among others) is that schools will continue to be able to count the small amount of tomato paste used on pizza as a serving of vegetables. Seriously, Congress???

(Kidding!) ***New analysis of 11 studies indicates that eating soy foods may reduce a person's risk of lung cancer. Further research is still needed, but a protective effect was detected in women, Asian populations, and those who have never smoked. Fingers crossed for more good news to come! ***And the verdict is in -- the new flavor of Extra Dessert Delights will be... ROOT BEER FLOAT! Sure, the soda-flavored gum wasn't our number-one choice, but we got a sneak chew and it's really good -- we bet you'll love it! Look for it on shelves this coming summer.
