Cravings, your days are numbered...

Cream of Wheat Chocolate Instant Hot Cereal - If a creamy hot breakfast bowl appeals to you, but you need something decadent to lure you in, consider yourself lured. On-the-Go Food News!

New Panera Breakfast Sandwich: Introducing the Mediterranean Egg White on Ciabatta. The sandwich is loaded with good stuff -- egg whites, roasted tomatoes, spinach, basil pesto, and white cheddar cheese. It clocks in at 410 calories and 15g fat; skip the cheddar, and you'll be down to 320 calories and 7g fat (PointsPlus® value 8*). Not bad!

7-Eleven Brings the Nutritional 411: Prepared foods at convenience stores are traditionally fatty and without nutritional information. But 7-Eleven's corporate dietitian has released a list of reasonable food finds at the chain, along with calorie counts, for every time of day. We're totally psyched about all the fresh fruit, salads, and veggie cups. Even the Boneless Buffalo Wings, with 60 calories and 1.5g fat each (eat three for a PointsPlus® value of 4*), aren't awful if you need a junk-food fix. Check out the list, and click here to browse around for more stats from 7-Eleven.

Chicago Walgreens Gets Fresh: Would you buy sushi from a drugstore? Sounds sketchy... but then again, we've never seen a drugstore like this. The new Walgreens on State Street in Chi-town reportedly features self-serve frozen yogurt, fresh produce, and, yes, even sushi. Anyone who's ever caved in and grabbed a candy bar or bag of chips while waiting for a prescription to be filled might appreciate this place...

Meatless Wonders!
Meatless Wonders!
Many, Many Meat Swaps!

Looking to eat less meat this year, or just hoping for some better-tasting choices in the faux-meat arena? Good news -- your options are multiplying. We dished on the return of Morningstar Farms Veggie Dogs, and MF has also added Veggie Meatballs to its line of frozen meatless goods -- have five for just 130 calories and 5g fat (PointsPlus® value 3*). Over at Lightlife, they're rolling out new frozen entrées that include whole grains, veggies, and at least 15g protein each. They've also got a line of frozen veggie burgers on the way. With varieties like Mellow Portobello Mushroom and Kick'n Black Bean, we're VERY excited to try 'em. Both the meals and the burger patties are hitting shelves this month! Plus, Lightlife is revising its Smart Dog recipe so that the meat-free franks are better on a grill -- new dogs to come in May. The folks at Boca have done some revamping too -- their All American Flame Grilled Meatless Burgers have reportedly been reformulated to taste more like the real deal. Finally, Turtle Island Foods (maker of Tofurky) is giving more "bite" to its meatless hot dogs and has a new jumbo frank in the works; expect these in the spring. Ready, set, SWAP!

The Buzz...

Sports fans can be calorie conscious, but arenas are notoriously packed with fatty food. Luckily, the new Snacksmart by Centerplate program is on the way. Guilt-free snacks like Funky Monkey freeze-dried fruit, Clif Bars, and Popchips are just some of the products coming soon to stadiums, convention centers, and other large venues. A gluten-free menu is also being tested. SCORE! ***Thirty-two-calorie beer?! Yup, it's a thing. Before you get too excited, this is light beer packaged in small servings. Anheuser-Busch is now selling its Select 55 beer in 7-oz. bottles (32 calories) and 8-oz. cans (35 calories). Would this satisfy your thirst or have the "mini candy bar effect," where you just wind up consuming more overall? ***Craving chocolate? Go for a walk. No, not just to put some distance between you and the chocolate; a recent study found that a brisk 15-minute walk helped subjects squash cravings. You know, as long as you don't walk while chewing on that chocolate bar... ***Lunch meat is on a mission! Healthy Ones has teamed up with WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease to boost heart-health awareness and raise cash for the cause. For every specially marked product sold this month, Healthy Ones will donate 5 cents to WomenHeart, up to $50,000. Grab some meat (and light bread) and show your support. ***Do calorie counts have the final say in weight loss, or do the sources of those calories play a part? Results of a new study suggest that it’s the amount of calories consumed that matters most, regardless of whether a diet emphasizes fat, protein, or carbs. That's encouraging for those who can't bear the idea of banning certain foods from their diet, but if you tend to overconsume a certain food type, that's worth considering when choosing a diet. What approach will help you to take in fewer calories? And that's all we've got. HG out!
