Rickland Orchards All Natural Greek Yogurt Bars - Before you jump to conclusions, these are NOT frozen treats. The yogurt here is in solid form (think yogurt-covered raisins), squiggled on top and lining the bottom of fruit 'n granola bars. The AMAZING snacks come in Toasted Coconut, Orchard Peach, Blueberri Acai, Cherri Almond, Cranberry Almond, and Apple & Honey. Each bar has 160 - 170 calories, 6 - 10g fat, 40 - 50mg sodium, 19 - 22g carbs, 5g fiber, 8 - 12g sugars, and 7g protein (PointsPlus® value 4 - 5*). They're just now popping up on shelves -- look for them at Costco and Meijer locations.

Farmer's Market Organic Pumpkin and Organic Butternut Squash - No, we're not saying to just go to ANY farmer's market (although they do rock) -- Farmer's Market is a line of canned organic purees. These squashy products aren't new, but we recently tried 'em and they're REALLY good. A 1/2-cup serving has 50 calories, 0g fat, 5 - 6mg sodium, 10 - 12g carbs, 2 - 4g fiber, 4g sugars, and 1g protein (PointsPlus® value 0*). BTW, the can liners are BPA-free, which is pretty cool. Find these at natural-food stores and select supermarkets. Just don't confuse the Pumpkin with the Pumpkin Pie Mix...

Dreyer's/Edy's Mango Fruit Bars - Already dreaming of summer? So are the people at Dreyer's/Edy's. A new addition has been made to the already-wonderful fruit bar lineup... and it's MANGO. Our only question: "What took so long?" Each fat-free frozen bar has just 80 calories, 19g carbs, and 19g sugars (PointsPlus® value 2*). P.S. We're not waiting for summer, and you shouldn't either -- snag a box from the freezer aisle ASAP.

Adventures in Hungryland: Experimenting with Duncan Hines Frosting Creations!

Have you heard about this new product line? It features a TON of different flavor mixes (with hardly any calories) meant to add flavor to a frosting base. While we LOVE flavor, we don't really have a place in our day-to-day lives for frosting. So we took to the kitchen with our rebellious ways, a bunch of the flavor mixes, and a couple of HG-friendly bases -- Cool Whip Free and plain fat-free Greek yogurt. The results were delicious! However, here are some things you should know...

The mixes are NOT sweetened. (After all, they're supposed to be added to frosting!) If you mix some into an unsweetened base, like plain yogurt, you'll need to add something for sweetness. No-calorie sweetener like Splenda or Truvia works great.

Don't dump too much in at a time! Each flavor packet is meant for a 16-oz. can of frosting, so if you're flavoring up a small amount of something, you only need a little of the mix.

The HG favorites? Cotton Candy (IT'S BLUE!) and Cinnamon Roll -- both were great mixed with Cool Whip Free (individually, of course), and the resulting fluffy flavored concoctions would be great on some guilt-free cake. The Cherry Vanilla was good mixed into plain fat-free Greek yogurt. Chocolate Marshmallow = not the best.

Check out the bazillion flavors available, and try some for yourself. Maybe add a little to oatmeal or even fat-free cream cheese -- you never know what amazing discovery may come of it! Keep us posted...

New Guilt-Free Menu Items We're Eyeing...

Quick-serve restaurants are dishing out impressive new eats -- check out the latest dishes that have caught our attention!

Panda Express Shanghai Angus Steak - After seeing the stats on this new meal, we decided to forgive the Chinese-food chain for that silly panda-diving-across-a-table commercial. The Wok Smart entrée features steak with asparagus and mushrooms, all tossed in a zesty sauce. Each serving has just 220 calories and 7g fat (PointsPlus® value 6*). Pair it with a side of veggies for a smart meal!

Subway Smokehouse BBQ Chicken - There's a new Fresh Fit sub in the house! BBQ-sauced chicken with loads of veggies is TOTALLY our idea of a good time -- no cheese or extra sauce needed. A 6-inch sub made with 9-Grain Wheat bread has 380 calories and 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 10*). You could even skip the bread and get the chicken on a salad -- before dressing, just 200 calories and 5g fat (PointsPlus® value 6*). It's only available for a limited time, so try it soon!

TCBY Soft Serve Greek Frozen Yogurt - It's here! Greek Honey Vanilla is currently being served at TCBY locations, and there are more flavors to come this summer. A 1/2-cup serving has 100 calories, no fat, and a whopping 8g protein (PointsPlus® value 3*). Nice!

The Buzz...

It seems like there's always some new fad diet coming out. But guess what... Research shows that when it comes to weight-loss success, the traditional "eat less, exercise more" plan is the most effective. A recently published study found that consuming less fat, specifically, was highly associated with weight loss. Joining a commercial weight-loss program also showed strong ties to diet success. What didn't work? Liquid diets, trendy diets, and over-the-counter diet pills. Do what works, people. ***One trend we CAN get behind? New York City's Green Cart Initiative. Back in 2008, carts started selling fresh fruit and veggies in low-income areas with high rates of obesity and diet-related diseases. Now there are more than 500 carts circulating NYC, and neighborhood residents are reporting increased consumption of the healthy stuff. Other cities nationwide are looking to adopt similar programs... Smart! ***The USA isn't alone in its love for weirdo fast food (e.g., the KFC Double Down, with its "bun" of fried chicken). From there to here, from here to there, crazy fatty foods are everywhere. Click here to check out 10 wacky food items from around the world... some more appealing than others. Poland's chicken-nugget burger with curry sauce? Intriguing. China's pork and seaweed doughnut... Seriously? ***On the sensible side of things, there are a couple of new stevia-sugar blends on the market for those who would like to trim the calories in their goodies without sacrificing the flavor. Domino Light has half the calories of sugar, and Truvia Baking Blend has 75 percent fewer calories than sugar. When using either product, add half as much sweetener as you would granulated sugar. Sweet!
