Need Motivation to Exercise? Good News!

The latest research on the subject of exercise is extremely encouraging! First up, if you find yourself too time crunched to fit in a full-hour workout, you may want to read this -- a recent study found that 30 minutes of exercise can be just as effective as 60 when it comes to dropping body fat. SCORE! The subjects were men, but we're optimistic nonetheless. Results of another study suggest that physical activity can actually decrease your food intake -- female subjects who worked out for 45 minutes in the morning were less motivated to eat afterward than when they didn't exercise. (Hmmm -- we're always HUNGRIER!) Also notable? The women in the study didn't eat more than usual later in the day to "make up" for the calories burned. And if the idea of exercise stresses you out, get this -- a new study found that just half an hour of moderate exercise can help people manage stress and anxiety in the near future better than the same amount of quiet rest. With all this in mind, brisk a.m. walks under an hour are sounding like a GREAT idea!

New Flavors! Rickland Orchards Greek Yogurt Coated Granola Bars in Strawberri and Peanut Butter - We discovered these amazing bars a while back, and now there are two new varieties for your (and our) chewing pleasure. The Strawberri bars taste like Strawberry Pop-Tarts, and the Peanut Butter flavor (with dark chocolate) is predictably delicious! Packed with protein and fiber, each bar has 150 - 170 calories and 4 - 8g fat (PointsPlus® value 4*). Buy 'em online -- they'll be launching in stores soon!

Green Mountain Farms Greek Cream Cheese - This spread packs in twice as much protein and half the fat of regular cream cheese... NICE! A 2-tbsp. serving of the tubbed variety has 60 calories and 3.5g fat (PointsPlus® value 2*). And the same-sized serving of the whipped version has only 45 calories and 2.5g fat (PointsPlus® value 1*). For now, find it at grocery stores in the Northeast, Midwest, and mid-Atlantic parts of the U.S. -- increased distribution is planned for next year!

The Buzz...

The HG book tour continues with FOUR events this week, each one PACKED with free snacks, big prizes, and general awesomeness. Tonight (Monday, 11/12), meet Lisa in Pittsburgh! Wednesday at noon, enjoy HG recipes for lunch with Lisa in Atlanta! (This is a ticketed event.) Wednesday night, it's another Atlanta event (non-ticketed), and Friday night's book signing is in Houston. Click for ALL the details! ***Think gaining back weight after a successful diet is inevitable? (It's certainly common!) You may want to put off starting the diet. A recent study found that women who devoted time to developing weight-maintenance skills -- without any attempt to lose weight -- before starting a diet gained back less of the weight than women who went straight into the diet. Practice makes perfect! ***Get this -- not only is Yelp super helpful when it comes to choosing a restaurant, but it's also on its way to helping you pick the best item to order, thanks to visual menus complete with user-uploaded photos. No more wondering if that schmancy chicken dish comes bathed in cream sauce! ***Last but not least, if you can't bring yourself to give up regular soda, check this out... Coca-Cola's UK website has a Work It Out Calculator that tells you how long it takes to burn off the calories in your beverage, doing anything from ironing to ballroom dancing. Neat! Spoiler alert: It takes zero minutes across the board to burn off the calories in a Diet Coke. And that's all we've got. HG out!
