Healthy Changes from Food Companies Keep on Coming!

Update & Recap: Food Makers Ditching Artificial Ingredients

The latest news is that Kellogg Co. will have ditched artificial colors and flavors in all its cereals and snack bars by the end of 2018 -- apparently, 75 percent of the cereal lineup is already free of artificial colors, and more than half are without artificial flavoring. Nice! Campbell Soup Co. is also scaling back on artificial ingredients in its North American products, with all artificial colors and flavors set to be gone by summer 2018. The soup gurus will also be increasing their organic offerings. (Have you seen the new soup line? Yum!) And ConAgra -- maker of Pam cooking sprays, Hunt's tomato products, and so much more -- recently announced that ALL of its canned goods that come out of the U.S. and Canada are now BPA-free. Hooray for that!

These days, it seems like every week, some food company or restaurant is jumping on this bandwagon. Allow us to recap many of the brands that have thrown their hat into the ring...

Companies that have pledged to remove or significantly reduce artificial ingredients: Campbell Soup Co., General Mills (cereal), Kellogg Co. (cereal and snack bars), Kraft (mac and cheese), Nestlé (candy), Hershey's (chocolate), Noodles & Co., Pizza Hut, Panera Bread, Papa John’s, Subway, and Taco Bell.

Companies that have pledged to use chicken free of human antibiotics or all antibiotics: Chick-fil-A, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Foster Farms, McDonald’s, Panera Bread, Perdue Farms, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Tyson Foods.

Other: ConAgra is using cans free of BPA liners, Chipotle Mexican Grill is removing all GMOs, Diet Pepsi is ditching aspartame, and General Mills is moving toward using cage-free eggs.
