What's All the Buzz About Butter?
Butter's Back... But It's Not Better (Plus HG Swaps)

Word from the American Butter Institute is that butter consumption in the US has gone up 25 percent in the last decade, hitting a 40-year high. We all know that too much saturated fat in our diets is not a good thing, and the trans fat in traditional margarines is also a no-no. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has said adults should limit their saturated and trans fats, focusing on healthier polyunsaturated fatty acids instead. So how do you make these changes? Check out our picks and tips...

Our Top Butter Options: Light whipped butters and light buttery spreads, which are much lower in total fat and saturated fat than regular butter or margarine. Brummel & Brown has 0g trans fat per serving, and it's been our go-to spread for ages.

Great Sources of Healthy Fats: Salmon, avocado, almonds, grapeseed oil, and olive oil. But you don't need to load up to reap the benefits, so measure carefully. Use a food scale for salmon and avocado, count or weigh your almonds, and use measuring spoons with your oils.

Now THAT's better!

The Buzz...

One of our favorite food mascots has gotten a makeover! Check out this commercial to see StarKist's Charlie the Tuna and his new look: He's gone 3D! P.S. We LOVE Charlie AND StarKist Tuna Creations... ***Oh, snap. Yoplait Greek is challenging Chobani Greek to a Taste-Off! The folks at Yoplait are so confident in their product, they're encouraging people to compare the two and tweet their opinions. They're even giving away coupons for their protein-packed yogurt. TASTE ON! ***What's your food IQ? Do you know which picks are smart and which are secret calorie disasters? Take HG Lisa's food quiz in the February issue of Redbook (in stores now), and see how well you do! Click here for the online version. ***Let's talk turkey... tacos! Those new Del Taco turkey items that were being tested out have officially gone nationwide (except for Oklahoma -- sorry). Skip the heavy tostada and stick with the tacos, which have 150 - 180 calories and 7 - 8g fat each (PointsPlus® value 4*). Nice! ***Crystal Light fans: The online CL store is CLOSING -- effective this FRIDAY (1/31/14) -- but you can get 50 percent off when you order THIS WEEK. Stock up on your favorites! And that's all we've got... HG out!
